The ASUS ZenScreen OLED MQ16AH is a 15.6-inch portable monitor that uses an OLED panel at Full HD resolution. It weighs 1.4 lb and is about 0.4 inches thick, so it is meant to travel with a laptop and give colour-focused work or entertainment a second screen.
Why OLED in a portable monitor
An OLED pixel makes its own light, so black pixels can turn off completely. ASUS cites a 100,000:1 contrast ratio and describes extreme blacks and high perceptual brightness. Compared with a typical LCD panel, this generally gives more punch to dark scenes and video. The brand also lists a 1 ms response time and HDR-10 support, with HDR10 being a widely used format for high dynamic range content, provided the connected device sends it.
Colour figures explained
The panel covers 100% of the DCI-P3 gamut, a wide colour space used in digital cinema and wider than standard sRGB. Delta E below 2 is the brand's measure of colour accuracy, where lower numbers mean displayed colours sit closer to the intended values and differences become hard to spot. These suit photo and video work, though professional colour work usually involves calibration of the whole setup.
Connections and cable management
ASUS gives the monitor a mini-HDMI port and three USB Type-C ports, all mounted on the sides to ease cable management. USB-C ports can accept video from laptops, tablets and some phones that support video output over USB-C, while mini-HDMI covers devices that have an HDMI output. Which devices work depends on the video capabilities of the host port, so it's worth checking.
Stand and positioning
The ASUS Smart Case folds into a stand, and an integral tripod socket gives more positioning options, including raised mounting on a tripod or camera support. That means the monitor can sit on a desk, a hotel table or a stand beside a laptop.
Proximity sensor
A built-in proximity sensor dims the display when it isn't in use, which ASUS says saves device power. That matters most when the monitor draws power from a laptop or phone.
Who it suits
It is for people who travel and care about colour and contrast: photographers checking images on location, video editors, or anyone who wants a movie-friendly second display. For plain document work, a basic panel can do the same job.
What to check before you buy
- Confirm your device outputs video over USB-C, or has HDMI that you can connect with a mini-HDMI cable.
- Check what cables are included in the box.
- Note that the resolution is Full HD (1920 x 1080), which is a limit on fine detail.
- Think about OLED use: static content shown for long periods is a general concern with OLED panels, so read the manual.
- Check how the monitor is powered, as the listing doesn't mention a battery.
- Make sure the case and tripod socket match how you plan to set it up.
