The ASUS VZ279QG1R is a 27-inch Full HD IPS monitor with a 75Hz refresh rate and FreeSync support. It aims at casual and entry-level gaming and everyday desk use rather than competitive play at very high frame rates. Here is what the specs mean.
Full HD on a 27-inch IPS panel
The resolution is 1920 x 1080 on a 27-inch IPS panel. Spread over 27 inches, Full HD is less dense than on a smaller screen, so fine text can look softer from up close. IPS panels typically offer wide viewing angles and consistent colour. It is also easier for a modest graphics card to drive than higher resolutions.
What 75Hz means
The refresh rate is how often the screen redraws each second. 75Hz is a little above the 60Hz of ordinary office monitors, so motion looks slightly smoother. It is well below the 144Hz and higher of dedicated competitive monitors. If your PC produces more than 75 frames per second, the extra frames won't be displayed.
Response time, ELMB and FreeSync
ASUS lists 1ms response using MPRT (moving picture response time), which is a different measure from the grey-to-grey figures many brands quote and is typically achieved with a motion blur reduction mode. ASUS Extreme Low Motion Blur (ELMB) is that mode, and the brand says it can work together with Adaptive-sync to reduce ghosting and tearing. Blur-reduction modes often work by strobing the backlight, which can lower brightness.
FreeSync is AMD's variable refresh rate technology. It lets the monitor match your graphics card's frame rate, helping to reduce tearing and stutter. It works with AMD graphics cards, and many others support the underlying Adaptive-sync standard; check your card's documentation.
GamePlus and other features
ASUS includes GamePlus, a set of in-game aids that, in ASUS's description, include on-screen crosshairs, timers and frame-rate counters. The listing also mentions a one-month Adobe Creative Cloud offer, with dates ended in 2025, so don't plan on it.
Connections and design
Inputs are DisplayPort and HDMI. The stand tilts only; there is no height adjustment, so if you need to raise it, check whether a VESA mount or a stand riser suits you. The design is ultra-slim, and the monitor weighs 8.6 lb (about 3.9 kg).
Who it suits
It suits people building or upgrading a first gaming setup, console players who want a larger screen, and anyone who wants a roomy 27-inch display for browsing and video. Players aiming for the highest frame rates will usually look at faster panels.
What to check before you buy
- Refresh rate goals: if you want 144Hz or more, this is not that monitor.
- Graphics card: confirm how it handles FreeSync or Adaptive-sync.
- Stand: tilt only, so check desk height and eye level.
- Ports: it has DisplayPort and HDMI; confirm your cables and devices match.
- Sharpness: compare text clarity if you will work from a short distance.
The short version
