The ASUS VU34WCIP-W is a 34-inch curved ultrawide monitor for everyday computing, with a resolution of 3440 x 1440 and a single USB-C cable for video, data and laptop charging. ASUS pitches the VU range as a flexible everyday display for work, entertainment and some gaming. Here is what its main specifications mean in practice.

Ultrawide WQHD and the 1500R curve

WQHD at 3440 x 1440 is an ultrawide format, about 21:9. Compared with a standard 16:9 Full HD screen, it gives more horizontal room, so two documents or a wide timeline can sit side by side without a second monitor. The panel has a 1500R curvature, meaning the curve follows a circle with a 1500 mm radius. Curves like this are meant to keep the edges of a wide screen at a similar distance from your eyes, and ASUS lists a 178° wide viewing angle.

100Hz and SmoothMotion

The refresh rate goes up to 100Hz, and ASUS says SmoothMotion with 1ms MPRT reduces trailing and keeps video and everyday movement crisp. A 100Hz refresh rate is higher than the 60Hz standard on most office screens, so scrolling and cursor movement can look smoother. It is not aimed at competitive gaming, where faster panels exist. MPRT is a measure of motion blur, and is not the same as grey-to-grey response time.

One cable with USB-C

The USB-C port carries data and the video signal to the display and delivers 65W of charging to a laptop, so a compatible laptop needs only one cable to the monitor. Whether it works depends on your laptop: its USB-C port has to support video output (often via DisplayPort Alt Mode), and 65W will suit many thin-and-light laptops but may charge more slowly than the original adapter on larger, power-hungry models. The monitor also has HDMI, DisplayPort and a USB hub, so several devices can connect.

Stand, ergonomics and speakers

ASUS describes three height options, built with a reusable packaging laptop stand and phone holder, designed to support better posture and reduce strain. Built-in speakers cover basic audio such as calls and video without desk speakers. Listing dimensions are 8.1 x 31.8 x 19.1 inches, with a weight of 11.5 lb (about 5.2 kg).

Nano-ion generator

ASUS includes a Nano-ion generator in this model and says it enhances the air quality of indoor environments. This is an extra feature built into the monitor and separate from the display itself, and its real effect will depend on your room and use. Check the manufacturer's information before relying on it.

Packaging and what's in the box

ASUS notes paper packaging and energy-efficient performance meeting environmental standards. The box contains a USB-C cable, an HDMI cable, an L-shaped screwdriver, a power cord, a quick start guide and a warranty card. ASUS lists a three-year warranty. A promotional Adobe Creative Cloud offer is mentioned in the listing, but its validity dates have passed.

Who it suits

It suits people who work with spreadsheets, documents, coding windows or editing timelines and want one wide screen. It also suits laptop users who want a docking-style desk with one cable, and anyone who wants a curved display for casual gaming and films.

What to check before you buy

  • Desk space: the monitor is about 31.8 inches wide, so confirm it fits your desk and the viewing distance.
  • Laptop USB-C: check that your laptop's USB-C port supports video output and power delivery.
  • Power: compare 65W with your laptop's usual charger.
  • Graphics: confirm your computer can drive 3440 x 1440, and whether it can reach 100Hz.
  • Software: some programs and games handle ultrawide shapes better than others.
  • Mounting: if you plan to use an arm instead of the stand, check the manual for compatibility.
