The ASUS VP327Q is a 31.5-inch monitor with a 4K UHD resolution of 3840 x 2160. ASUS pairs the large screen with 99% sRGB colour coverage, HDR-10 support and Adaptive-Sync. It is a general-purpose display for home offices, creative work and entertainment.
What 4K means on a 31.5-inch screen
4K UHD has four times as many pixels as Full HD. Spread across 31.5 inches, that works out to roughly 140 pixels per inch, which typically gives sharp text and fine detail while leaving plenty of room for several windows. Many operating systems apply scaling at this resolution so that text and icons stay a comfortable size.
Colour: 99% sRGB
sRGB is the standard colour space for web content, most photos and most everyday video. ASUS says the VP327Q covers 99% of it, which means colours should look close to how the content was intended. That suits general editing and design work for the web, but sRGB coverage is not the same as factory calibration, so professionals who need exact colour usually calibrate with a measuring device.
HDR-10 support
HDR-10 is a common high-dynamic-range format. A monitor that accepts it can read the extra brightness and contrast information in HDR video and games. The effect depends heavily on the panel's peak brightness and contrast, so HDR on a monitor in this class is typically a modest step rather than the dramatic effect seen on displays built specifically for it. ASUS says HDR-10 enhances the bright and dark areas of an image.
Adaptive-Sync for gaming
Adaptive-Sync lets the monitor change its refresh rate to match the frame rate coming from the graphics card, which reduces screen tearing during fast action. It needs a compatible graphics card and a connection that supports it. ASUS says it also brings out image detail in dark areas.
Viewing angle and display settings
The 178° wide viewing angle means colour and brightness stay fairly consistent when you look at the screen from the side, which is typical of IPS-type panels. The monitor is also listed with flicker-free technology and a blue light filter, both of which are display settings you adjust in the on-screen menu.
Ports, speakers and mounting
Inputs are DisplayPort and two HDMI ports. There are also built-in stereo speakers, which are handy for casual listening and video calls, although separate speakers or headphones are usually better for music. The monitor is VESA mountable, so it can be attached to a compatible monitor arm or wall mount.
Size and weight
With its stand, it measures about 28.1 x 7.9 x 19.1 inches (71 x 20 x 49 cm) and weighs 15.2 lb (about 6.9 kg). It is a large screen, so measure your desk before you buy.
Who it suits
It suits people who want a large 4K screen for working with spreadsheets, documents, photos and video side by side, as well as people who want a single display for both work and entertainment.
What to check before you buy
- Computer output: confirm that your computer or graphics card can drive 4K at 60Hz over the cable you plan to use.
- Desk space: allow for the stand's depth and the screen's width.
- Mounting: check which VESA pattern a monitor arm needs and the weight it can hold.
- Scaling: consider how your operating system scales text at 4K.
- Gaming: check your graphics card's Adaptive-Sync support.
