The ASUS VP229QF is a 21.5-inch Full HD desktop monitor with an IPS panel, a 100Hz refresh rate and a frameless design. It is aimed at everyday computing, office work and casual gaming, where a smooth picture and comfortable viewing matter more than extreme resolution.

Resolution and panel type

The screen is Full HD, which is 1920 x 1080 pixels. At 21.5 inches, that gives a sharp image at normal desk distance and is easy for most computers and consoles to drive. The panel is IPS, and ASUS lists a 178° wide viewing angle. IPS panels typically hold their colour and brightness well when seen from the side, which helps if you share the screen or sit off-centre. ASUS also lists 99% sRGB coverage in the model name, a reference to the standard colour range used for most web and office content.

What 100Hz and Adaptive-Sync mean

Refresh rate is how many times per second the screen redraws. Many basic monitors run at 60Hz; at 100Hz, motion such as scrolling, dragging windows and fast games is generally smoother. ASUS calls this SmoothMotion.

Adaptive-Sync, delivered through variable refresh rate (VRR), lets the monitor match its refresh rate to the frames your graphics hardware produces. ASUS says this removes screen tearing and choppy frame rates. Check that your graphics card or console supports adaptive sync.

Eye Care features

ASUS says its Eye Care monitors carry TÜV Rheinland certification for Flicker-free and Low Blue Light technologies, which it describes as supporting a comfortable viewing experience. Those are the brand's own certifications and claims. Good posture, screen height and room lighting matter as well.

Controls and software

Settings are reached through a 5-way navigator on the front of the monitor, which ASUS describes as intuitive. ASUS DisplayWidget Center, a companion app, lets you change monitor settings with a mouse instead of the buttons.

Mounting and connections

The monitor is VESA wall-mountable, which can free up desk space. It has DisplayPort and HDMI inputs, and an HDMI cable is in the box. The unit weighs about 5.6 lb as listed.

What's in the box

  • HDMI cable
  • L-shaped screwdriver
  • Power cord
  • Quick start guide and warranty card

ASUS lists a three-year warranty.

Who it suits

It fits home offices, study desks and secondary-screen setups, as well as casual gaming on a PC or console that supports 100Hz. If you need 4K sharpness or very high refresh rates for competitive play, you would look at other models; this one is about a clean, smooth Full HD picture.

What to check before you buy

  • Desk space: a 21.5-inch panel is compact; measure against your desk and any existing stand.
  • Ports on your computer: confirm it has HDMI or DisplayPort.
  • Refresh rate support: your graphics hardware needs to support 100Hz and adaptive sync to use them.
  • Mounting: if you plan to wall-mount it, check the VESA pattern and how much weight the mount can carry.
  • Stand adjustment: check the manual for which tilt or height adjustments the stand offers.

  • A 21.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS monitor with a frameless design and 178° viewing angles.
  • 100Hz refresh rate with Adaptive-Sync and VRR support.
  • TÜV Rheinland-certified Flicker-free and Low Blue Light technologies, per ASUS.
  • DisplayPort and HDMI inputs, VESA wall-mountable, with a three-year warranty.
