The ASUS VA34VCPSN is a 34-inch curved ultrawide monitor that doubles as a docking station. One USB-C cable carries the picture, data and power to a laptop, while the monitor also provides a wired network port and a USB hub. This page explains what those features mean for a desk setup.

The 21:9 ultrawide screen

The panel is 34 inches with a 21:9 aspect ratio and 3440 x 1440 resolution, often called ultrawide QHD. Compared with a standard 16:9 monitor, the extra width fits two documents or a wide spreadsheet side by side, or a long video timeline, without a second screen. It has a 1500R curvature, meaning the curve matches a circle with a radius of 1,500mm. The curve is designed to bring the edges nearer your eyes. The listing gives a 178° viewing angle.

100Hz and Adaptive-Sync

The refresh rate goes up to 100Hz, higher than the common 60Hz. That makes scrolling and motion look smoother. Adaptive-Sync matches the refresh rate to the graphics output of a compatible computer, reducing tearing and stutter.

One-cable docking

The USB-C port carries data and the video signal, and charges a laptop with up to 65W. In practice, that means plugging in one cable on arrival at your desk, and your laptop is connected to the screen, the keyboard, the mouse and the network. Your laptop's USB-C port must support video output (DisplayPort Alt Mode) and the charging power it needs; the laptop's manual will say. Laptops that need more than 65W may charge slowly or not at all.

Ports and network

  • HDMI, DisplayPort and USB-C inputs
  • A USB hub for peripherals
  • An RJ45 LAN port for a wired network connection
  • An earphone jack

A wired connection is generally steadier than Wi-Fi for video calls and large file transfers.

Stand and mounting

The stand tilts, swivels and adjusts for height, and the monitor is VESA wall-mountable. The monitor measures about 31.9 x 8.3 x 13.9 inches with the stand (about 81 x 21 x 35 cm) and weighs 21 lb (about 9.5 kg), so check your desk's depth and width.

Eye Care features

ASUS says the monitor carries TÜV Rheinland certification for flicker-free and low blue light technologies. These are the brand's specifications, and they don't make any health claim of their own.

What's in the box

An HDMI cable, a USB-C cable, a power cord, a quick start guide and a warranty card. The packaging is paper, and the monitor follows energy-efficiency standards, according to ASUS.

Who it suits

It suits people who work from a laptop at a desk, those who want a tidy single-cable setup, and anyone who wants more screen width for spreadsheets, code, documents or video editing.

What to check before you buy

  • Laptop compatibility: confirm USB-C video output and charging up to 65W.
  • Desk space: a 34-inch curved screen needs width and depth.
  • Graphics output: make sure your computer can drive 3440 x 1440.
  • Resolution: at 34 inches, text is sized differently from a 4K screen; consider how close you sit.
  • Mounting: if you plan to use a VESA arm, check that the arm supports the monitor's weight, and read the manual.
  • Offers: the bundled software offer listed expired on 08/31/2023.
