The ASUS VA27EHF is a 27-inch Full HD monitor with an IPS panel and a 100Hz refresh rate. It is built for everyday computing, streaming and casual gaming, and ASUS places it in its Eye Care range, with features meant to make long sessions more comfortable.

Screen and panel

The display is 1920 x 1080 across 27 inches, with a borderless design. At that size, Full HD has a lower pixel density than on a 24-inch screen, so text is a little less sharp up close. It suits a normal desk viewing distance, though. The IPS panel has a 178° viewing angle, which ASUS says gives vivid colour from the side as well as from the front. In general, IPS panels keep colour and brightness more consistent when viewed off-axis than VA or TN panels.

What 100Hz and 1ms MPRT mean

A 100Hz refresh rate means the picture updates 100 times a second, against 60 on a basic monitor. Movement in games and scrolling looks smoother. ASUS calls its implementation SmoothMotion. MPRT stands for moving picture response time, and 1ms MPRT is a measure of perceived blur reduction, usually achieved with backlight techniques, rather than the pixel transition times quoted in grey-to-grey figures. The two numbers are not directly comparable.

Adaptive-Sync

Adaptive-Sync is a variable refresh rate feature. It lets the monitor match its refresh rate to the frame rate from the graphics card, which ASUS says eliminates screen tearing and irregular frame rates. Support depends on your graphics hardware and cable, and the manual explains how to switch it on.

Eye Care features

The listing says the monitor is TÜV Rheinland certified for flicker-free performance and has Low Blue Light technology for a comfortable viewing experience. These are ASUS's descriptions. Breaks and good lighting still matter for long sessions.

Mounting and connections

The monitor supports a VESA wall mount, which frees desk space, and HDMI is listed as an input. Check the manual for the VESA hole pattern and for which other inputs are fitted. The listing gives dimensions of 24.1 inches wide by 18.3 inches high with the stand (about 61 x 46 cm) and a weight of 2.2 lb (about 1 kg) as listed.

Who it suits

It suits home and office desks, students, second screens and light gaming on a console or PC where a 100Hz Full HD picture is enough.

What to check before you buy

  • Resolution: decide whether Full HD at 27 inches gives enough sharpness for your use.
  • Inputs: confirm the ports match your computer or console, and that you have a cable.
  • Refresh rate: your graphics card or console needs to output 100Hz to use it.
  • Mounting: check the VESA pattern if you plan a wall or arm mount.
  • Stand: check the tilt and height adjustment the stand offers.
  • Desk space: measure the width of the monitor and stand.
