The ASUS VA27DQF is a 27-inch Full HD monitor with a frameless IPS panel and a 100Hz refresh rate. It is part of ASUS's Eye Care range, which features flicker-free and low blue light technology, and it is suited to everyday work, study and casual gaming on a desk.
Screen size and resolution
The panel is 27 inches with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 (Full HD). Full HD on a 27-inch screen is a familiar office and home choice. It gives you a large workspace, though pixels are larger than on higher-resolution screens of the same size, so sitting at a normal desk distance is generally more comfortable than leaning in close.
The IPS panel has a 178° wide viewing angle, according to ASUS. In general, IPS screens keep their colour and brightness more consistently when seen from the side than other common panel types.
Smooth motion at 100Hz
SmoothMotion is ASUS's name for the 100Hz refresh rate. Compared with a standard 60Hz monitor, a higher refresh rate typically makes scrolling and moving objects look smoother. The monitor lists a 1ms MPRT (moving picture response time) and supports variable refresh rate through Adaptive-Sync, which is designed to reduce screen tearing and choppy frame rates when your computer's frame rate varies.
MPRT is measured differently from the grey-to-grey figure used on some other monitors, so the two numbers should not be compared directly.
Eye Care features
ASUS says its Eye Care monitors include TÜV Rheinland-certified Flicker-free and Low Blue Light technologies, intended to make viewing more comfortable. Flicker-free means the backlight does not use visible brightness flicker at the levels tested by that certification, and low blue light modes reduce the blue part of the screen's output. Check the on-screen menu for how to switch these modes on.
Connections and mounting
The VA27DQF has HDMI and DisplayPort inputs plus an earphone jack. It is VESA wall-mountable, so it can go on a compatible wall bracket or monitor arm to free desk space. Check the VESA pattern and weight limits in the manual before buying a mount.
What to check before you buy
- That your computer has a matching HDMI or DisplayPort output, and what cable you will use.
- Which refresh rate your computer and cable support. 100Hz may need to be selected in your display settings.
- Whether you want a higher resolution for photo or video work. This model is 1080p.
- Desk depth and height, as the stand's adjustment options are not detailed in the listing.
- If you want built-in speakers: the listing mentions an earphone jack only.
