The ASUS VA24EHF is a 23.8-inch Full HD monitor with an IPS panel and a 100Hz refresh rate. It is aimed at people who want one screen for everyday work, streaming and casual games, and who care about a smoother picture than the common 60Hz office display gives. Here is what its main specifications mean in practice.
What the panel gives you
The screen measures 23.8 inches across the diagonal, which is the "24-inch" class, and has a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080. At this size that is a sensible pairing: text and images look reasonably sharp at a normal desk distance, and almost any computer or console can drive it without strain.
The panel type is IPS. In general, IPS screens keep their colour and brightness more consistent when you view them from the side, and ASUS lists a 178° viewing angle. That helps when two people look at the same screen, or when you sit off-centre. The frameless design means thin borders on the sides and top, which also suits setups with two monitors side by side.
What 100Hz and 1ms mean
Refresh rate is how many times per second the picture is redrawn. Most basic monitors run at 60Hz; this one is rated at 100Hz, which typically makes scrolling, cursor movement and game motion look smoother. To benefit, your computer has to send frames that fast, so check that your graphics settings allow it.
ASUS quotes a 1ms MPRT figure. MPRT (moving picture response time) measures perceived motion blur, and it is a different measurement from the grey-to-grey response time that some brands quote, so the two numbers should not be compared directly.
Adaptive-Sync and tearing
When a game's frame rate does not match the screen's refresh rate, the picture can tear. Adaptive-Sync, also called variable refresh rate (VRR), lets the monitor change its refresh rate to follow the graphics card. ASUS says the VA24EHF uses it to give a tear-free picture. It needs a graphics card and driver that support the feature, and it is normally switched on in the graphics software.
Flicker-free and low blue light modes
ASUS markets this model in its Eye Care range and says it carries TÜV Rheinland certification for Flicker-free and Low Blue Light technologies. In plain terms, flicker-free means the backlight dimming is designed to avoid visible flicker, and a low blue light mode shifts the colour balance warmer. Many people use a mode like this in the evening because the screen looks less harsh. These features are about how the display looks; they are not a medical treatment.
Mounting and what is in the box
The monitor is VESA mountable, so it can go on a wall bracket or a monitor arm to free up desk space. Check which VESA hole pattern and screw length the monitor uses before buying a mount. It also has a tilt adjustment on the stand. ASUS lists an HDMI cable, a power cord, a warranty card and a quick start guide in the box. The monitor weighs 6.3 lb (about 2.9 kg) and is about 21.2 inches wide.
Who it suits
It fits home offices, study desks, second-screen setups and casual gaming where Full HD is enough. It is less suited to people who need a very high resolution for detailed photo or video editing, or a large screen for strategy games and spreadsheets with many columns.
What to check before you buy
- Ports: the listing mentions HDMI. Confirm your computer has a matching output and that you are happy with the cable supplied.
- Refresh rate settings: make sure your graphics card and operating system can output 100Hz at 1920 x 1080.
- Mounting: if you plan to use an arm or wall bracket, confirm the VESA pattern and the weight limit.
- Desk space: the stand is a fixed-height tilt design, so check it sits at a comfortable eye level for you.
- Colour work: a monitor in this class is meant for general use, so look at the colour specifications if accuracy matters.
