The ASUS TUF Gaming VG34VQ3B is a 34-inch ultrawide curved monitor with a 3440 x 1440 resolution and a 180Hz refresh rate. It is built for gaming, but the wide screen also gives room for several windows at once. Here is what its main specifications mean in everyday use.

What 21:9 and 3440 x 1440 give you

A 21:9 ultrawide panel is wider than the common 16:9 shape, so it shows more of a game's scene at the sides and more of a spreadsheet or timeline in work. ASUS calls the 3440 x 1440 resolution WQHD. It has the same 1440-pixel height as a standard QHD monitor but more width, so it is sharper than full HD while asking less of a graphics card than 4K.

The 1500R curve

The "1500R" figure describes the curve: the screen follows part of a circle with a 1500 mm radius. A smaller number means a stronger curve. The curve is meant to feel immersive, as the edges of the screen sit closer to your natural line of sight.

Refresh rate, response time and motion blur

The monitor refreshes up to 180 times per second, which typically makes fast movement look smoother than on a 60Hz screen. ASUS rates the response time at 1ms MPRT, a measure of motion clarity rather than grey-to-grey pixel switching, so read it as a motion-blur figure.

ASUS Extreme Low Motion Blur (ELMB) SYNC is intended to reduce ghosting and blur while variable refresh rate is active. AMD FreeSync Premium enables variable refresh rate by default, matching the screen's refresh to the graphics card's output to avoid tearing. Check that your graphics card and cables support it.

Colour and HDR

ASUS says the panel covers 90% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut, a wider range than standard sRGB, and lists HDR support. HDR on monitors varies a lot in how strongly it shows, so treat it as a feature to check against your own needs rather than a guarantee of cinema-style contrast.

Connections and in the box

The box includes a DisplayPort cable, a USB Type-B to A cable, an L-shaped screwdriver, a power cord, a quick start guide and a warranty card. The monitor also has a built-in speaker, and the listing mentions a three-year warranty. Check the full list of ports in the manual to match your setup.

Size and weight

The listed dimensions are about 17.6 x 31.9 x 8.4 inches (45 x 81 x 21 cm) and it weighs 16.8 lb (about 7.6 kg). A 34-inch ultrawide is about 80 cm across, so measure your desk for width and depth.

Who it suits

Gamers who like a wide field of view, and people who want a panoramic screen for editing, coding or multitasking. Competitive players who want a high refresh rate will find 180Hz a main feature.

What to check before you buy

  • Desk space: about 81 cm across, plus the stand's depth.
  • Graphics card: driving 3440 x 1440 at high refresh rates needs a capable GPU.
  • Ports and cables: confirm that your computer has a compatible DisplayPort or HDMI output.
  • Software support: some games and apps don't fill an ultrawide screen.
  • Mounting: check the manual for stand adjustments and wall-mount options.
