The ASUS TUF Gaming VG32VQ1B is a 31.5-inch curved gaming monitor with a 2560 x 1440 (QHD) resolution and a 165Hz refresh rate. It is built for fast-paced games, where smooth motion and low blur matter more than raw pixel count.
Size, resolution and curve
At 31.5 inches, the screen is large enough to fill your field of view at normal desk distance. The 2560 x 1440 resolution (often called 1440p or WQHD) has about 78% more pixels than Full HD, which keeps text and detail sharper on a screen this size than 1080p typically would.
The panel has a 1500R curve. The R number is the radius of the curve in millimetres, so 1500R means a circle with a 1.5 m radius. The curve is meant to keep the edges at a similar distance from your eyes, which ASUS positions as more immersive for gaming.
165Hz and 1ms
Refresh rate is how many times per second the screen redraws. ASUS lists 165Hz, and the monitor supports 144Hz. Higher rates look smoother in fast games, provided your graphics card can produce frames that quickly.
ASUS also quotes a 1ms response time, measured as MPRT (moving picture response time). MPRT is a different measure from the grey-to-grey figures on some monitors, and it relates to how the Extreme Low Motion Blur feature reduces blur by strobing the backlight.
ELMB and adaptive sync
ASUS Extreme Low Motion Blur (ELMB) works together with Adaptive-sync, which ASUS says eliminates ghosting and tearing. Backlight strobing methods like ELMB typically reduce screen brightness, and they may need specific refresh rates to work, so check the manual for how they combine with variable refresh.
FreeSync Premium is supported over both DisplayPort and HDMI. It lets the monitor match its refresh rate to the frame rate from a compatible graphics card, to reduce tearing and stutter. FreeSync Premium also typically requires a refresh rate of at least 120Hz at the monitor's resolution.
Shadow Boost and HDR-10
Shadow Boost brightens dark areas of a scene so details are easier to see, without over-exposing bright areas, according to ASUS. The monitor also supports HDR-10, a common HDR signal format. Support for the format means the monitor accepts HDR content, and the final result depends on the panel's brightness and contrast capabilities.
Ports, stand and mounting
The monitor has DisplayPort and HDMI inputs and a built-in speaker. It is VESA mountable, so you can attach it to a monitor arm or wall mount instead of the stand. It weighs 16 lb (about 7.3 kg). Check the manual for the supported mount pattern and the stand's adjustments.
Who it suits
It suits PC gamers who want a large 1440p screen and a fast refresh rate, and anyone who prefers a curved panel for games or a wide desk setup. A 165Hz screen is most useful with a graphics card that can run your games at high frame rates.
What to check before you buy
- Graphics card: confirm it can drive 1440p at the frame rates you want, and has DisplayPort or HDMI.
- Desk space: a 31.5-inch monitor needs depth and width.
- Curve: some people prefer flat screens for photo editing or design work.
- Console use: check which resolutions and refresh rates your console supports.
- Mounting: check the VESA pattern if you want an arm.
- Cables: use the right cable for the refresh rate you want.
