The ASUS TUF Gaming B760M-PLUS WiFi D4 is a micro-ATX motherboard for Intel's LGA 1700 socket. It's the base a desktop PC is built around: the processor, memory, storage and graphics card all connect to it. This model uses DDR4 memory and adds WiFi 6, 2.5Gb Ethernet and modern USB connections.

Socket and processor support

The board uses the Intel LGA 1700 socket. ASUS says it's ready for 13th Gen and 12th Gen Intel Core processors, as well as Pentium Gold and Celeron processors. The processor has to match the socket, and some processors may need a BIOS update first. Check ASUS's CPU support list for the exact chip you plan to use.

DDR4 memory

The "D4" in the name means the board takes DDR4 memory, not DDR5. The two aren't interchangeable, because the memory slots are physically different. If you already own DDR4 modules, this lets you reuse them. If you're buying new memory, make sure it's DDR4.

Power delivery and durability

The voltage regulator module (VRM) feeds clean power to the processor. ASUS lists 12plus1 DrMOS power stages, a six-layer PCB and 8plus4 ProCool power connectors, along with what it calls military-grade TUF components and Digiplus VRM. In general, stronger power delivery helps a processor hold steady performance under sustained load, particularly in higher-power chips.

Cooling

The board carries enlarged VRM heatsinks, M.2 heatsinks and a chipset (PCH) heatsink. Hybrid fan headers accept either 3-pin or 4-pin fans, and Fan Xpert 4 is ASUS's software for tuning fan curves.

Expansion and storage

There's a PCIe 5.0 slot for the graphics card, and two PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots for NVMe solid-state drives. PCIe 5.0 doubles the bandwidth of PCIe 4.0, though whether you'd notice depends on the card. The M.2 heatsinks help keep fast drives cooler.

Connectivity

ASUS lists Intel WiFi 6 and Realtek 2.5Gb Ethernet, with TUF LANGuard for network protection. USB options include a rear USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C port, a front-panel header for USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C and a Thunderbolt (USB4) header. That header needs a compatible add-in card to be used, so check the manual.

The board also offers Two-way AI Noise-Cancelation, which ASUS says reduces background noise on the microphone and the audio output.

Size

The listing gives dimensions of 11.0 x 10.9 x 2.8 inches (about 28 x 27.7 x 7 cm) in its packaging. Micro-ATX boards fit in micro-ATX and larger cases, and many ATX cases take them too.

Who it suits

It suits builders putting together a gaming or general desktop around a 12th or 13th Gen Intel processor, particularly those with DDR4 memory on hand.

What to check before you buy

  • Processor: confirm your exact CPU is supported and whether it needs a BIOS update.
  • Memory: check that your modules are DDR4.
  • Case: confirm it accepts micro-ATX.
  • Storage: note that there are two M.2 slots, and plan drives accordingly.
  • Thunderbolt header: check what extra card or cable you'd need.
  • Cooling and power supply: confirm your cooler's socket support and the power supply's connectors.

The short version

  • A micro-ATX LGA 1700 board for 12th and 13th Gen Intel Core processors.
  • Takes DDR4 memory.
  • PCIe 5.0 slot and two PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots.
  • Intel WiFi 6, Realtek 2.5Gb Ethernet and USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C.
  • Enlarged heatsinks and a 12plus1 DrMOS power design.
