The ASUS TUF Gaming B650E-PLUS WiFi is a full-size ATX motherboard for AMD's AM5 platform. It pairs DDR5 memory with three M.2 slots and current wireless and wired networking, and it is aimed at gaming and other high-performance builds. The "E" in B650E generally signals extended PCIe 5.0 support.

Processor support and AM5

The board takes AMD Ryzen 9000, 8000 and 7000 series desktop processors on the AM5 socket. A newer processor on an older BIOS may need an update first. The BIOS FlashBack feature allows firmware updates from a USB drive without a processor installed. Confirm your chip against ASUS's support list.

Power delivery

ASUS lists 12+2+1 power stages rated at 80A, an 8-layer PCB, 8+8 pin ProCool power connectors, alloy chokes and durable capacitors. Power stages are the circuits that turn the supply's 12V into the lower voltage the processor needs. More and stronger stages typically help keep voltage stable under sustained load, which matters with higher-core-count Ryzen chips. The two 8-pin connectors bring that power in from the power supply.

Storage and expansion

There are three M.2 slots: one PCIe 5.0 and two PCIe 4.0, each with a heatsink. A PCIe 5.0 x16 slot serves the graphics card. PCIe 5.0 drives are the fastest, but PCIe 4.0 drives are enough for most workloads. A Thunderbolt (USB4) header is supported, though a compatible add-in card is typically needed.

Networking and USB

Wi-Fi 6E adds the 6GHz band, if your router supports it. Wired networking is Realtek 2.5Gb Ethernet. USB includes a rear 20Gbps Type-C port and a front-panel 10Gbps Type-C connector. The board has DisplayPort and HDMI outputs, which work only with processors that have integrated graphics.

Cooling, lighting and build features

Cooling comes from an enlarged VRM heatsink, three M.2 heatsinks, a PCH heatsink, hybrid fan headers and Fan Xpert 4 software. Three addressable RGB Gen 2 headers work with Aura Sync. Build-friendly details include PCIe Slot Q-Release, an M.2 Q-Latch, Q-Antenna, Q-Dashboard, Q-LED and a pre-mounted I/O shield. Software includes TurboV EVO, ASUS DriverHub and DTS Audio Processing. ASUS also positions the board for "AI PC" use, which is general marketing language for compute-heavy work.

Who it suits

It suits builders who want a full-size AM5 board with strong power delivery, several fast M.2 slots and Wi-Fi 6E, and whose case takes ATX. The listing gives its weight as 3.2 lb.

What to check before you buy

  • Processor and BIOS: confirm support for your Ryzen model and whether it needs an update.
  • Memory: it uses DDR5, not DDR4; check supported speeds.
  • Case: confirm it takes ATX.
  • Storage plan: note which M.2 slot runs at which speed.
  • Graphics output: motherboard video ports need a processor with integrated graphics.
  • Cooler and power supply: check AM5 cooler compatibility and that your supply has both 8-pin CPU connectors.

The short version

  • A full-size ATX AM5 motherboard from ASUS with the B650E chipset.
  • 12+2+1 80A DrMOS power stages and DDR5 support.
  • One PCIe 5.0 and two PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots, all with heatsinks.
  • Wi-Fi 6E, 2.5Gb Ethernet and 20Gbps USB Type-C.
  • BIOS FlashBack, Q-Release and Aura Sync RGB headers.
