The ASUS TUF Gaming B650-PLUS WiFi is an ATX motherboard for AMD's AM5 socket, which is used by Ryzen 7000 series desktop processors. It pairs the newer platform with DDR5 memory, PCIe 5.0 storage support, WiFi 6 and a 2.5 Gb Ethernet port. It's a base for building a new gaming or general-purpose desktop.
The AM5 socket and DDR5
AM5 (LGA 1718) is AMD's current desktop socket. ASUS says the board is ready for Ryzen 7000 series processors. AM5 boards use DDR5 memory, so DDR4 modules from an older PC won't fit. Before buying, confirm your chosen processor's compatibility with the board's firmware version, as the manual and ASUS's support pages explain.
Power delivery
The board has 12+2 teamed power stages, 8+4 ProCool power connectors, alloy chokes and durable capacitors. These components sit around the processor socket and convert power from the supply into the steady voltage the processor needs. In general, stronger power delivery matters most for higher-core-count processors and sustained heavy loads. The 8+4 pin sockets refer to the power connectors that feed it, so check that your power supply has matching cables.
Storage and USB connectivity
ASUS lists M.2 with PCIe 5.0 support, which is the fastest generation of M.2 storage slot currently offered, though a drive must also support it to use that speed. Other listed connections include USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C, a front-panel USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C connector and USB4 support. The front-panel connector needs a case that has a matching USB-C port.
Network features
The board includes WiFi 6 and Realtek 2.5 Gb Ethernet. A 2.5 Gb port goes beyond standard gigabit speeds if your router or switch supports it. ASUS also lists TUF LANGuard, which it describes as protection for the network connection.
Cooling and fans
The cooling system uses enlarged heatsinks on the voltage regulators (VRM) and chipset (PCH), plus M.2 heatsinks for the storage drives. There are hybrid fan headers and the Fan Xpert 2+ utility in ASUS's Armoury Crate software, which manages fan speeds. Hybrid headers typically accept either 3-pin or 4-pin fans.
Audio and lighting
Two-way AI Noise Cancelation reduces background noise from the microphone and audio output, useful for game chat or video calls. Lighting comes through Aura Sync, with edge lighting, addressable RGB headers and an RGB strip header for compatible lights.
Size
The board is a full ATX form factor. The listing gives its packaged dimensions as 10.8 x 2.9 x 13.3 inches and a weight of 1.0 lb.
