The ASUS TUF Gaming A620M-PLUS WiFi is a micro-ATX motherboard for AMD's AM5 socket. It is built for Ryzen 7000 series processors and uses DDR5 memory. ASUS emphasises durable components and a full cooling setup, along with built-in Wi-Fi and fast wired networking.

Socket and memory

AM5 is the socket for AMD's Ryzen 7000 desktop processors, and the board lists support for that series. It takes DDR5 memory only, so DDR4 modules from an older PC will not work. ASUS also lists OptiMem II, which refers to careful routing of traces and vias and ground layer optimisations. According to ASUS, this preserves signal integrity and helps memory overclocking.

Power and durability

The board has a six-layer PCB, alloy chokes, TUF components that ASUS calls military-grade, and a DIGI+ VRM. The VRM is the circuit that converts power to the voltage the processor needs. In general, a sturdy VRM with good cooling helps keep voltage steady under load.

Cooling

The cooling hardware includes an enhanced VRM heatsink, a chipset (PCH) heatsink, hybrid fan headers and Fan Xpert 2+. Hybrid headers can typically be used with either three-pin or four-pin fans, and Fan Xpert is ASUS's software for managing fan behaviour.

Storage and ports

PCIe 4.0 is supported and there are two M.2 slots, with an M.2 Q-Latch that lets you secure a drive without a tiny screw. The board also has USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports and a front USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C connector, which needs a case with a matching front-panel port. Display outputs include two DisplayPort and one HDMI, which are useful with processors that have integrated graphics. A BIOS Flashback feature is listed, which typically lets you update the BIOS without a processor installed.

Networking and audio

Wi-Fi 6 and Realtek 2.5Gb Ethernet are on board, with TUF LANGuard for network protection, as ASUS describes it. The listing also mentions two-way AI noise cancellation, which reduces background noise on the microphone and audio output during games or calls.

Lighting

Onboard addressable Gen 2 headers and an Aura RGB header allow LED strips to be synced with other Aura Sync-compatible hardware.

Size

The listing gives dimensions of 9.6 x 9.6 inches (about 24 x 24 cm) and a weight of 1.6 lb (0.7 kg). Micro-ATX boards fit micro-ATX and larger ATX cases.

Who it suits

It suits people building a mainstream AM5 PC with a Ryzen 7000 processor who want built-in Wi-Fi, two M.2 drives and a straightforward feature set. It is less suited to builds that need many expansion cards.

What to check before you buy

  • Case fit: confirm your case supports micro-ATX.
  • Processor: check that your Ryzen model is on the maker's support list and whether a BIOS update is needed.
  • Memory: it needs DDR5.
  • Storage: the M.2 slots run at PCIe 4.0, so faster PCIe 5.0 drives will run at lower speeds.
  • Front panel: check that your case has a USB Type-C connector if you want to use the front Type-C port.
  • Cooler: check AM5 mounting compatibility.

The short version

  • Micro-ATX AM5 motherboard for Ryzen 7000 series, using DDR5.
  • Six-layer PCB, DIGI+ VRM and heatsinks on the VRM and chipset.
  • PCIe 4.0, two M.2 slots, 2.5Gb Ethernet and Wi-Fi 6.
  • BIOS Flashback, two DisplayPort outputs and one HDMI.
  • Aura Sync RGB headers.
