The ASUS ROG Swift PG39WCDM is a 39-inch curved ultrawide gaming monitor that uses an OLED panel. It combines a 21:9 screen at 3440 x 1440 with a 240Hz refresh rate, and adds a built-in KVM switch and USB-C connection. Here is what the main specs mean in use.
Ultrawide, curved and OLED
A 21:9 ratio is much wider than a standard 16:9 monitor, so it shows more of a game's scene sideways, or fits several windows side by side. At 3440 x 1440 the screen is sharper than Full HD but lighter on the graphics card than 4K. The 800R curve, which ASUS lists in the product name, is a tight curve designed to wrap the picture around your field of view at normal desk distance.
OLED panels light each pixel individually, so black pixels can switch fully off. This is what the "True Black" in the DisplayHDR name refers to, and it typically gives high contrast. ASUS says this third-generation ROG OLED panel is 30% brighter than its predecessor with a 100% window in HDR.
Speed: 240Hz and 0.03ms
A 240Hz refresh rate means the image updates 240 times per second, which looks smoother in fast games if your computer can produce that frame rate. The 0.03ms gray-to-gray response time is ASUS's figure for how quickly a pixel changes colour, and OLED is known for fast pixel response. The monitor is G-SYNC Compatible, which lets a compatible graphics card match the refresh rate to its frame rate and reduce screen tearing. ASUS also lists Extreme Low Motion Blur (ELMB) technology.
Colour and HDR
The listing gives 99% DCI-P3 coverage, a wide colour range used in cinema and many games, and a colour difference of Delta E below 2, a figure usually used to show colours are close to accurate. It is VESA DisplayHDR 400 True Black compliant. An optional uniform brightness setting keeps luminance level across different picture content, which may suit work where brightness changes are distracting.
Heat management and burn-in
OLED screens can suffer image retention over long periods when static elements stay on screen. ASUS says a custom heatsink, improved airflow and intelligent voltage optimisation help with heat and reduce the risk of burn-in. Varying what is on screen and following the manual's care settings still helps with any OLED. The listing mentions a 3-year warranty, so check what it covers.
Built-in KVM and USB-C
The ROG KVM lets one keyboard and mouse control two computers without extra hardware, and ASUS says it also makes copying files between the devices easy over USB 3.2. A USB-C port provides up to 90W of power delivery, which can charge a compatible laptop while it carries the display signal, depending on the laptop's own support. The DisplayWidget software handles settings from the desktop.
Size
The monitor measures about 12.5 x 35.0 x 22.6 inches (32 x 89 x 57 cm) including the stand and weighs 21.2 lb (about 9.6 kg). A 39-inch ultrawide needs a deep, wide desk.
Who it suits
It suits players who want an immersive wide screen with fast response, and people who share one desk between a gaming PC and a laptop and want one keyboard and mouse for both.
What to check before you buy
- Graphics card: confirm it can drive 3440 x 1440 at the frame rates you want, with a suitable display output.
- Desk space: check the width, depth and viewing distance.
- Game and app support: check that the games you play support the 21:9 ratio.
- Laptop USB-C: confirm your laptop supports video and charging over USB-C.
- OLED care: read the manual's guidance on static images and screen-care features.
- Mounting: check whether the stand's height, tilt and any VESA options match your setup.
