The ASUS ROG Swift PG27AQN is a 27-inch gaming monitor with a 2560 x 1440 (QHD) IPS panel and a 360 Hz refresh rate. ASUS designed it for competitive players who want smooth motion and quick responses. This page explains what the main specifications mean and what the monitor needs from the rest of your setup.

What 360 Hz means

The refresh rate is how many times per second the screen redraws the picture. At 360 Hz that is 360 times a second, compared with 60 Hz on a typical office monitor. Higher rates give smoother motion in fast games, though the benefit depends on your computer being able to produce that many frames per second. Reaching 360 frames at 1440p generally needs a powerful graphics card and a game that is not demanding.

NVIDIA G-SYNC

ASUS says NVIDIA G-SYNC helps you play smoothly and avoid screen tearing at rates up to 360 Hz. Tearing happens when the screen updates mid-frame; G-SYNC matches the display to the graphics card's output. It requires a compatible NVIDIA graphics card.

Resolution and the IPS panel

QHD, also called Wide Quad HD, is 2560 x 1440 pixels. It gives sharper detail than Full HD on a 27-inch screen without the demands of 4K. ASUS lists its Ultrafast IPS technology for quick response between 1440p images and a response time of 1 ms. IPS panels generally have good colour consistency and wide viewing angles, and the listing gives 178 degrees both horizontally and vertically. The surface is matte, which reduces reflections.

Esports Dual Mode

Esports Dual Mode lets the monitor switch the image to a 25-inch diagonal size, using 1080p resolution or a resolution of 2368 x 1332, according to the listing. Some competitive players prefer a smaller image so that the whole screen sits closer to their central view.

NVIDIA Reflex Analyzer

NVIDIA Reflex Analyzer measures system latency, the delay between a mouse click and the result appearing on screen. It works with compatible mice and graphics cards, and helps you see the effect of settings and hardware changes.

Stand, ports and size

The monitor includes height adjustment and a standard VESA mount for monitor arms. A built-in USB 3.2 Gen 1 hub adds extra ports. It measures about 24.2 x 14.6 x 3.5 inches in the listing and weighs 18.5 lb (about 8.4 kg).

Who it suits

It suits competitive players of fast shooters and similar games, who have a graphics card strong enough to feed a very high frame rate. It is less useful for people who mainly work in documents or watch video, who gain little from 360 Hz.

What to check before you buy

  • Graphics card: confirm it supports G-SYNC and can reach high frame rates at 1440p.
  • Cables and ports: check which video connections you will use and that your cable supports 360 Hz.
  • Desk space: a 27-inch screen and stand need room; consider a VESA arm.
  • Reflex Analyzer: it needs compatible peripherals.
  • Language: parts of the listing are not in English; check the manual for settings.
  • What's in the box: confirm included cables and the stand.
