The ASUS ROG Strix Z590-I Gaming WiFi is a small mini-ITX motherboard for Intel's LGA 1200 socket. It is built for compact gaming PCs that still want strong power delivery, fast networking and modern storage. At roughly 6.7 x 6.7 inches (17 x 17 cm), it is among the smallest standard board sizes.
Socket and processor support
The LGA 1200 socket supports 11th and 10th Gen Intel Core processors, and ASUS says the board is designed to get the most from 11th Gen chips. The Z590 chipset is the enthusiast tier of that generation, which typically allows processor overclocking. ASUS also lists AI Overclocking, AI Cooling, AI Networking and two-way AI noise cancellation, which are software tuning features.
Power delivery
Small boards have little space, so the power design matters. ASUS lists a 10-layer PCB and 8+2 Dr. MOS power stages with a ProCool II power connector, alloy chokes and durable capacitors. The power stages feed the processor, and stronger delivery typically helps the CPU hold higher speeds under load.
Cooling
The thermal design includes an active VRM fan, triple-decker heatsinks, integrated I/O and MOS heatsinks, an M.2 backplate, an L-shaped heat pipe, a PCH heatsink and a skived-fin design. These are meant to keep the power parts and drives from overheating in a tight case.
Networking and storage
The board has onboard Intel Wi-Fi 6E (AX210) and Intel 2.5 Gb Ethernet with ASUS LANGuard. Wi-Fi 6E adds the 6 GHz band, which needs a compatible router. It supports PCIe 4.0 and has two M.2 slots for NVMe drives. PCIe 4.0 needs a compatible processor, so check which CPU supports it.
Connections and audio
Thunderbolt 4 is on the board, along with HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.4 outputs and a front-panel USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C connector. The HDMI and DisplayPort outputs use the processor's integrated graphics. Audio comes from the SupremeFX ALC 4080 codec with DTS Sound Unbound and Sonic Studio III. Aura Sync RGB lighting is supported through RGB headers and Gen 2 addressable RGB headers.
Easier building
ASUS lists a pre-mounted I/O shield, an M.2 Q-Latch for tool-free drive fitting, and BIOS FlashBack, which lets you update the BIOS from a USB drive without a processor installed. That helps if a board needs an update before it can run a newer chip.
Who it suits
It suits builders making a compact Intel gaming or workstation PC who want Wi-Fi 6E, Thunderbolt 4 and two M.2 drives on a small board.
What to check before you buy
- Processor: confirm you have a 10th or 11th Gen LGA 1200 chip.
- Case: make sure your case supports mini-ITX.
- Memory: check the ASUS memory support list for module type and speeds.
- Cooler: confirm clearance for your CPU cooler in a small case.
- BIOS: check whether the board needs an update for your processor.
The short version
