The ASUS ROG Strix XG27ACMS is a 27-inch gaming monitor with a 2560 x 1440 (QHD) Fast IPS panel and a refresh rate of up to 320Hz when overclocked. It is aimed at players of fast competitive games who want a sharper picture than Full HD without giving up speed. It also adds a USB Type-C input, so a laptop can connect with a single cable.

What 1440p at 27 inches gives you

QHD is 2560 x 1440 pixels, about 78% more than Full HD (1920 x 1080). On a 27-inch screen that works out to roughly 109 pixels per inch, which is typically enough for text and game detail to look crisp at normal desk distance. It is also a resolution most mid-range and better graphics cards can drive at high frame rates in esports titles, which matters when the screen can refresh this quickly.

What 320Hz and 0.3ms mean in practice

Refresh rate is how many times per second the screen redraws. ASUS lists 320Hz (OC), meaning the top rate is reached through an overclock setting in the monitor's menu. Higher rates show motion in smaller steps, which can make fast movement look smoother, but you only see the benefit if your computer produces frames that quickly.

Response time is how quickly a pixel changes colour. ASUS rates the Fast IPS panel at 0.3ms (minimum), a figure usually measured under favourable conditions, so real-world transitions vary with the setting and the colours involved.

Motion blur and variable refresh rate

The monitor supports ASUS Extreme Low Motion Blur Sync (ELMB SYNC), which ASUS says lets its motion-blur reduction work together with variable refresh rate. Variable refresh rate, listed here as G-SYNC Compatible, lets the screen match the frame rate coming from the graphics card, which reduces tearing. Motion-blur reduction usually works by strobing the backlight, and many monitors can't combine it with variable refresh, so this pairing is a notable part of the spec.

USB-C, software and extras

The USB Type-C port supports DisplayPort Alt mode. A compatible laptop can send video through one cable, which keeps a desk tidier. Check your device's port specification, as not every USB-C port carries video.

DisplayWidget Center is ASUS software that lets you open the on-screen menu and change settings with a mouse instead of the buttons on the monitor. The listing also mentions ROG Gaming A.I. features, a tripod socket and a three-year warranty. In the box you get a DisplayPort cable, power cord, ROG pouch, sticker, quick start guide and warranty card. ASUS also lists a three-month Adobe Creative Cloud offer, valid until 8/31/2026.

Size and weight

The packaged dimensions are listed as 8.6 x 24.2 x 20.2 inches, and the weight as 20.1 lb (about 9.1 kg). Check the stand's footprint against your desk, and the manual for wall-mount details.

Who it suits

It suits players of fast-paced games who have a graphics card able to produce very high frame rates, and who prefer 1440p to 1080p. It also suits people who want a laptop and a desktop to share one display through USB-C. If your computer tops out well below 200 frames per second in the games you play, the highest refresh rates will go largely unused.

What to check before you buy

  • Your graphics card: confirm it can output 1440p at the refresh rate you want, and which ports it has.
  • Cables and ports: the box includes DisplayPort; confirm what your computer uses, and whether your laptop's USB-C port supports video.
  • Overclock setting: the 320Hz mode is described as OC, so check the manual for how to enable it.
  • Desk space and mounting: compare the stand's size with your desk, and look at the tripod socket and mounting options.
  • Variable refresh support: confirm your graphics card works with G-SYNC Compatible displays.
