The ASUS ROG Strix GA15DK (model GA15DK-DH776) is a ready-built gaming desktop. It combines an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X processor, a GeForce RTX 3070 graphics card, 16GB of memory and a 1TB solid-state drive in a tower with RGB lighting and a transparent side panel. It comes with Windows 11 Home installed, which makes it a plug-in-and-play alternative to building a PC from parts.

The processor

The Ryzen 7 5800X is an eight-core processor that ASUS lists with a boost clock of up to 4.7 GHz and 32MB of cache. Eight cores give headroom for gaming while streaming or running other programs in the background. It sits on a ROG B550 board and chipset.

The graphics card

Graphics matter most for games. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 has 8GB of GDDR6 memory, a base clock of 1500 MHz, a boost clock of 1755 MHz and a TDP of 220W. TDP is a guide to how much power and cooling the card needs. The card includes two HDMI and three DisplayPort outputs, so it can drive several monitors. RTX cards support ray tracing and DLSS upscaling in games that include those features.

Memory and storage

The system has 16GB of DDR4 memory running at 3200 MHz, which is typical for current gaming. Storage is a 1TB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD, which loads games and Windows much faster than a hard disk. Modern game libraries are large, so 1TB can fill up quickly. Ask about extra drive slots in the manual or on the ASUS website.

Cooling and design

The case uses what ASUS calls Flow Tech Ventilation to improve internal airflow, which helps the processor and graphics card hold their speeds under load. The transparent side panel shows the internals, with ASUS Aura Sync RGB lighting on the chassis. Practical touches include a carry handle for taking the tower to a LAN party and a side hook for hanging a headset.

Ports and wireless

On the front there are a USB 3.2 Type-A port, a USB 3.2 Type-C port, and headphone and microphone jacks. The rear has four USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, two USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, mic, line-out and line-in jacks, Ethernet and a PS/2 port. Wireless is Gigabit WiFi 5 (802.11ac). ASUS notes that USB transfer speeds vary, as the website explains. Wired Ethernet is generally the more stable choice for online games.

Size and who it suits

The tower measures about 7.3 x 16.6 x 19.6 inches, so check your desk or floor space. It suits gamers who want a ready-made desktop with a strong graphics card and a processor suited to multitasking, and people who want room to upgrade later, as tower PCs usually allow.

What to check before you buy

  • Monitor: you need a monitor, keyboard and mouse; confirm your monitor's connections match the card's HDMI and DisplayPort outputs.
  • Space and noise: check the tower fits, and with its ventilation, how it sounds under load.
  • Power: the manual and ASUS website list the power supply; consider this if you plan to upgrade the graphics card.
  • Wireless: WiFi 5 is fine for many homes, but a cable or adapter may suit your network better.
  • Storage plans: decide whether 1TB is enough for your games.
  • Warranty and support: check the terms on ASUS's site.
