The ASUS ROG Strix B760-A Gaming WiFi is an ATX motherboard for Intel's LGA 1700 socket. It has DDR5 memory, PCIe 5.0, built-in WiFi 6E and a white and silver look, which suits builders putting together a light-coloured gaming PC with a 12th or 13th generation Intel Core processor.

Socket and processor support

LGA 1700 is the socket for 12th and 13th generation Intel Core processors, and ASUS also lists Pentium Gold and Celeron chips. The B760 chipset is a mainstream option in that lineup. Whether a particular processor runs out of the box can depend on the board's BIOS version, so check the support list. The board has a BIOS FlashBack button, which ASUS provides to help with firmware updates.

Power and thermals

ASUS lists 12 + 1 power stages, ProCool power connectors, alloy chokes and durable capacitors, and says this supports the latest multi-core processors. Power stages are the circuits that convert the supply voltage into the steady, lower voltage the processor needs. More stages typically spread the load, though real-world results depend on the processor and cooling. Thick heatsinks connect to the power stages with high-conductivity thermal pads, which ASUS says keep them cool during heavy workloads.

DDR5, PCIe 5.0 and display outputs

The board uses DDR5 memory, which is not interchangeable with DDR4, so memory from an older PC will not fit. PCIe 5.0 is listed on the x16 SafeSlot, ASUS's reinforced graphics slot. PCIe 5.0 doubles the per-lane bandwidth of PCIe 4.0, but you need a card that uses it. Video outputs are HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4, which work with Intel processors that include integrated graphics.

Networking and USB

Networking is Intel Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax) and Intel 2.5G Ethernet, along with ASUS LANGuard. ASUS also mentions AI Networking, which it says simplifies setup and improves performance, and Two-Way AI Noise Cancelation for microphone and audio output. For USB, there is a rear USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C port, rated at up to 20 Gbit/s, eight additional USB ports and a USB 3.2 Gen 2 front-panel connector.

Building aids and software

The DIY-friendly features are PCIe Slot Q-Release, an M.2 Q-Latch, BIOS FlashBack and Q-LED, which signals problems during startup. The board comes with a 60-day trial of AIDA64 Extreme and a UEFI BIOS dashboard that includes MemTest86 for checking memory. The board also supports Aura Sync RGB lighting.

Size

The package measures about 9.6 x 12.0 x 2.8 inches (24 x 30 x 7 cm) and weighs 4.2 lb (about 1.9 kg). It is a standard ATX board, so it needs a case that accepts ATX.

Who it suits

It suits builders who want an Intel platform with modern DDR5 and fast networking, and who like a white and silver colour scheme to match white cases, coolers and graphics cards.

What to check before you buy

  • Processor: confirm it is a supported LGA 1700 chip and what BIOS version it needs.
  • Memory: use DDR5 modules, and check the support list for speeds.
  • Case: make sure the case takes ATX boards and suits a white build, if that's your aim.
  • Cooler: confirm the cooler has LGA 1700 mounting.
  • Storage: check the number and type of M.2 slots in the manual if you plan several drives.
  • Wi-Fi: WiFi 6E benefits depend on your router and region.

The short version

  • An LGA 1700 ATX motherboard for 12th and 13th generation Intel Core chips.
  • DDR5 memory, PCIe 5.0 x16 SafeSlot, HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4.
  • Intel Wi-Fi 6E and Intel 2.5G Ethernet.
  • 12 + 1 power stages with thick VRM heatsinks.
  • Q-Release, Q-Latch, BIOS FlashBack and Q-LED to ease building.
