The ASUS ProArt PA329CV is a 32-inch 4K monitor aimed at photographers, video editors and designers. Its focus is colour accuracy: the panel is factory calibrated, covers the standard sRGB and Rec. 709 colour spaces, and adds USB-C connectivity for a tidy single-cable setup.

4K on a 32-inch panel

The screen has 3840 x 2160 pixels on an IPS panel with 178° wide viewing angles. At 32 inches, 4K gives a sharp picture with plenty of room for editing timelines, tool palettes and multiple windows. The panel is rated at 400 cd/m² typical brightness. ASUS also lists HDR-10 support, which is a format for the video signal rather than a promise of very bright highlights.

Colour accuracy

The monitor covers 100% of sRGB and 100% of Rec. 709. sRGB is the standard for web and most photos, and Rec. 709 is the standard for HD video. ASUS lists factory calibration with a Delta E under 2 and Calman Verified status. Delta E measures the difference between a displayed colour and the intended one; the lower the number, the closer it is, and values below 2 are generally considered hard to tell apart by eye. The listing also mentions 10-bit colour, which allows smoother gradients. Calibration is done at the factory, and colour drifts as monitors age, so professionals typically recalibrate with a colorimeter from time to time.

This monitor is built to sRGB and Rec. 709, so it is not aimed at work that needs wider gamuts such as DCI-P3 or Adobe RGB.

Connections

ASUS lists USB-C with Power Delivery, DisplayPort, HDMI and a USB 3.1 hub. With a laptop that supports it, one USB-C cable can carry video, data and charging power. The Power Delivery wattage isn't given in the listing, so check the specifications for your laptop's needs. The hub lets you plug in a keyboard, card reader or drive at the monitor.

Stand and ergonomics

The stand is height adjustable, and the listing mentions a C-clamp for attaching to a desk edge. ASUS says its Eye Care features and ergonomic stand are designed to reduce fatigue during long sessions. Fit your monitor height and distance to what feels comfortable for you.

Size and weight

With its stand the monitor measures about 18.5 x 28.6 x 9.6 inches (47 x 73 x 24 cm) and weighs 27.8 lb (about 12.6 kg). It's a large, heavy desk display.

Who it suits

It suits creators who want a colour-accurate 4K screen right out of the box, and laptop users who like the one-cable USB-C setup.

What to check before you buy

  • Colour needs: confirm that sRGB and Rec. 709 cover your work, rather than wider gamuts.
  • USB-C: check that your laptop supports video output and Power Delivery over USB-C, and how many watts it needs.
  • Desk space: at 32 inches and 27.8 lb, check the depth and strength of your desk.
  • Graphics: make sure your computer can drive 4K at the refresh rate you want.
  • Software offer: the listing mentions a limited-time Adobe Creative Cloud trial with dates that have passed, so don't count on it.
  • Calibration: consider a colorimeter for critical work.
