The ASUS ProArt Display PA328QV is a 31.5-inch monitor aimed at creative work such as photo editing, video editing and graphic design. It pairs a large QHD screen with factory colour calibration, so what you see on screen is closer to what the file actually contains. This page explains what the main specs mean and who the monitor is built for.

A large screen at 2560 x 1440

The panel is 31.5 inches across the diagonal with a resolution of 2560 x 1440, often called QHD or 1440p. On a screen this size, that works out to a pixel density lower than a 4K panel of the same size, which means text and interface elements look comfortably large at 100% scaling. Many people find that easier to work with than a 4K display that needs scaling. If you edit very fine detail, though, you may notice individual pixels more than on a higher-resolution screen.

ASUS describes the panel as HDR, and it uses IPS technology with a 178° viewing angle. IPS panels typically keep colour and brightness consistent when you look at them from the side, which matters when you share the screen with a client or colleague.

What 100% sRGB and 100% Rec. 709 mean

A colour gamut is the range of colours a screen can show. sRGB is the standard used for most web images and everyday photography, and Rec. 709 is the standard for HD video. ASUS says the PA328QV covers 100% of both, which means it should reproduce the colours that content in those standards calls for.

This is not the same as covering wider gamuts such as DCI-P3 or Adobe RGB. If your work targets print with wide-gamut inks or cinema-grade delivery, check which colour space you need before choosing a monitor.

Factory calibration and Delta E

Delta E is a measure of the difference between a colour that should be displayed and the one that actually appears. A lower number is better, and a value under 2 is generally considered hard for the eye to tell apart in normal viewing. ASUS says each unit is factory calibrated to a Delta E below 2 and that the monitor is Calman Verified, a colour-accuracy validation programme.

Factory calibration gives you a good starting point, but screens drift over time. Professionals typically recalibrate with a colorimeter every so often, and the ambient light in the room affects how you judge colour.

Connections and ergonomics

ASUS lists DisplayPort and HDMI inputs, a headphone jack and a USB hub. The hub is handy for card readers, drives and other peripherals that you want to reach from the desk. The listing also describes the stand as height adjustable, which helps you set the top of the screen near eye level on a screen this tall.

The monitor measures about 33.1 x 12.5 x 20.7 inches (84 x 32 x 53 cm) with the stand and weighs about 25.3 lb (11.5 kg), so it needs a solid desk with some depth.

Who it suits

It suits photographers, video editors and designers who want a large, colour-accurate screen at a standard resolution. It also suits anyone who spends long hours in documents, spreadsheets or code and likes a big, readable workspace. It is not a gaming-focused model, so look elsewhere if high refresh rates are your priority.

What to check before you buy

  • Desk space: confirm that your desk is deep and wide enough for a 31.5-inch screen and its stand.
  • Graphics output: check that your computer has a DisplayPort or HDMI output that can drive 2560 x 1440, and which cable you will need.
  • Colour needs: make sure sRGB and Rec. 709 are the right targets for your work, not a wider gamut.
  • USB hub: check which cable connects the hub to your computer and which ports are available.
  • Calibration: consider whether you will want a colorimeter to recalibrate over time.
  • What's in the box: check the cables supplied and any software or offers, since promotions in listings can expire.

The short version

  • A 31.5-inch IPS monitor with 2560 x 1440 resolution and a 178° viewing angle.
  • 100% sRGB and 100% Rec. 709 coverage, as ASUS states.
  • Factory calibrated to a Delta E below 2 and Calman Verified.
  • DisplayPort, HDMI, a headphone jack and a USB hub, with a height-adjustable stand.
  • Aimed at creative work rather than fast-paced gaming.
