The ASUS ProArt PA247CV is a 23.8-inch monitor aimed at people who care about colour accuracy: photographers, designers, video editors and anyone doing colour-sensitive work. It combines an IPS panel with factory calibration and a USB-C port that can also charge a laptop. Here is what the specifications mean.

Panel size and resolution

The screen is 23.8 inches with a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080. At this size, that works out to a pixel density that is typical for an office monitor: text is clear at normal desk distance, though less fine than on a higher-resolution screen of the same size. The backlight is LED.

ASUS specifies an IPS panel with a 178° wide viewing angle. IPS panels typically hold colour and brightness well when viewed from the side, which matters when two people look at the same screen or when you sit off-centre.

Colour coverage and accuracy

ASUS lists 100% sRGB and 100% Rec. 709 coverage. sRGB is the standard colour space for most web content and many photos. Rec. 709 is the standard used for HD video. Covering both fully means the monitor can show the full range of colours those standards define.

The monitor is Calman Verified and factory calibrated to a Delta E below 2. Delta E measures the difference between the colour that should appear and the one that does. A value under 2 is generally considered hard to tell apart by eye. Calibration is done at the factory, and colour work that needs strict accuracy can still call for periodic recalibration with a measuring device.

Connections

The PA247CV offers:

  • DisplayPort over USB-C with 65W Power Delivery
  • DisplayPort
  • HDMI
  • A USB 3.1 hub

With a compatible laptop, one USB-C cable can carry video and charge the laptop at up to 65W, which typically suits ultraportables and many mainstream laptops. Larger laptops with higher power needs may charge more slowly. The USB hub lets you attach a keyboard, drive or card reader to the monitor and share them with the laptop through that same cable.

ASUS describes the monitor as compatible with laptops and Macs. It works across 100-240V, so it can be used with power outlets in different countries.

Who it suits

It suits photo and video editors, designers and students who want colour-accurate work on a compact screen, and people who want a single-cable laptop docking setup. It is a Full HD display, so someone who wants lots of workspace or very fine detail may prefer a higher resolution. It is not designed around fast gaming specifications.

What to check before you buy

  • Desk space: the listing gives about 21.3 x 8.3 inches of footprint and a height of 13.5 inches, and a weight of 13.9 lb.
  • USB-C compatibility: confirm your laptop supports video output (DisplayPort Alt Mode) over USB-C, and check its charging wattage against the 65W figure.
  • Cables: check which cables are included, and whether you need an extra one for your device.
  • Colour needs: for print or professional video work, check which colour spaces your workflow requires.
  • Promotions: the listing mentions a limited-time software subscription with dates that have passed, so do not count on it.
