The ASUS ProArt Display PA279CRV is a 27-inch 4K monitor made for people who work with colour, such as video editors, photographers and designers. It combines a wide colour gamut with factory calibration and a USB-C port that can carry video and charge a laptop through one cable.
What 4K on 27 inches gives you
The IPS panel has a resolution of 3840 x 2160 and 178° viewing angles. IPS panels typically keep colour and brightness steady when you view them from the side, which helps when you share the screen. At 27 inches, 4K packs in a lot of detail, so text and fine image edges look sharp. Many people run it with display scaling turned on, so check that your software handles that well.
Colour coverage and accuracy
ASUS lists 99% coverage of DCI-P3, the colour space used in digital cinema, and 99% of Adobe RGB, which photographers often use for print work. A wider gamut means the screen can show more saturated colours than a standard sRGB display. The monitor is also Calman Verified and factory pre-calibrated to a Delta E below 2. Delta E measures the difference between the colour requested and the colour shown, and values under 2 are generally hard to notice by eye. Calman is colour calibration software, and the verification means the factory calibration was checked against it. If your work is colour-critical, you may still want your own calibration tool for periodic checks.
HDR
The display supports HDR, a format that widens the range between dark and bright areas. HDR works best with source material and software that support it, and its effect depends on the panel's brightness. For HDR editing workflows, check the specific requirements of your editing software.
One cable for video, data and power
The USB-C port carries DisplayPort video, data and 96 watts of Power Delivery. With a compatible laptop, one cable can show the picture, connect the monitor's USB hub and charge the laptop. The monitor also has standard DisplayPort and HDMI inputs, and it supports daisy-chaining, which lets you pass the signal on to a second compatible monitor. Your laptop's USB-C port needs to support DisplayPort output for this to work.
Ergonomics
The stand is height adjustable, which helps match the screen to your eye level. The monitor measures 24.1 x 8.5 x 16.1 inches including the stand and weighs 18.2 lb (about 8.3 kg). Check the manual for other adjustments.
Who it suits
The PA279CRV suits people who edit video or photos, produce graphics, or want one monitor for creative work and a tidy single-cable laptop setup. Gamers who want very high refresh rates will find other monitors aimed at them.
