The ASUS Pro B660M-C D4-CSM is a microATX motherboard for Intel's LGA 1700 socket, designed for business and commercial desktops rather than gaming rigs. ASUS positions it for IT teams that need steady, manageable machines they can roll out and maintain over a long period.

What "CSM" means

CSM stands for ASUS Corporate Stable Model. ASUS says these boards come with up to 36 months of supply, end-of-life notices and engineering change notice (ECN) control. In plain terms, the company commits to keeping the board available for a long stretch and to warn customers before it changes or retires it. That matters for organisations that want to buy the same hardware repeatedly and keep a standard system image.

Processor support and memory

The LGA 1700 socket is ready for 12th Gen Intel Core, Pentium Gold and Celeron processors, according to ASUS. The "D4" in the name points to DDR4 memory, which is not interchangeable with DDR5. Check the manual for the supported speeds and maximum capacity before ordering memory.

Connectivity and storage

ASUS lists PCIe 4.0, a front-panel USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C connector and Intel 1Gb Ethernet. PCIe 4.0 offers more bandwidth than PCIe 3.0 for fast NVMe SSDs and graphics cards. The product title also mentions two M.2 slots, so a board like this can hold a fast boot drive plus a second drive for data. The Type-C header needs a case with a matching front-panel port.

Intel's gigabit Ethernet controllers are a common choice in business machines, because drivers are widely supported across operating systems.

Security and recovery features

The title lists an onboard TPM 2.0 chip. A TPM is a small security component that stores encryption keys and supports features such as disk encryption and secure sign-in. Its presence is also a requirement for some current operating system versions.

ASUS also points to self-recovering BIOS technology, which it says restores the system firmware automatically from a verified backup. For a fleet of office machines, that can save a service call.

Remote management

The board has an SMBUS header that connects to a DASH LAN for remote IT management, as ASUS describes it. DASH is a management standard that lets administrators monitor and control compatible systems over the network. ASUS also names its Control Center Express suite as an improved management tool for day-to-day IT operations. You will need compatible network hardware and software for these features.

Audio extras

The title also lists a mono-out header with an amplifier IC. This is typically used to drive a small internal speaker in kiosks, point-of-sale machines or similar systems.

Who it suits

It suits office desktops, small business workstations and projects where the same board needs to stay available over time. At roughly 10 x 10 inches (about 26 cm), it fits microATX cases and larger.

What to check before you buy

  • Processor: confirm your 12th Gen chip is supported, and check for any BIOS version requirement.
  • Memory: it uses DDR4, so DDR5 modules will not fit.
  • Case: make sure it takes microATX boards and has a front USB-C port if you want to use that header.
  • Graphics: if your processor has no integrated graphics, you will need a separate graphics card.
  • Management features: check that DASH and the Control Center software suit your network setup.
  • Cooler: LGA 1700 coolers mount differently from those for older Intel sockets.

The short version
