The ASUS Prime B760M-A WiFi is a micro-ATX motherboard for Intel desktop processors. It uses the B760 chipset and the LGA 1700 socket, supports DDR5 memory and includes built-in WiFi 6E, which makes it a base for a compact or mid-size PC build.

Socket and processor support

LGA 1700 is the socket used by Intel's 12th and 13th generation Core processors, and ASUS lists both as supported. The socket must match the processor exactly, so a CPU for a different socket will not fit. Before buying, check ASUS's CPU support list, since some processors need a BIOS update to work with a given board.

Memory: DDR5

The board takes DDR5 memory, in dual channel, with a maximum of 128GB. DDR5 modules are not interchangeable with DDR4: they have a different notch position and will not fit older slots. Using two matching modules typically gets the most from dual channel. ASUS also names OptiMem II, a board design feature it says preserves signal integrity for better memory overclocking.

What PCIe 5.0 and two M.2 slots mean

PCIe 5.0 is the newest generation of the expansion interface listed, with higher bandwidth than PCIe 4.0 or 3.0. In practice, it matters for the fastest graphics cards and drives. Older and slower PCIe cards still work in the same slot. The listing doesn't say which slots run at PCIe 5.0, so check the manual.

Two M.2 slots allow two compact NVMe solid-state drives to be installed directly on the board with no cables, which keeps a build tidy. Check which generation and length each slot supports.

Connectivity

The listing names WiFi 6E, USB 3.2 Gen 2 and a Type-C connection. WiFi 6E adds the 6GHz band to WiFi 6, which is useful in areas with a lot of congested networks, though it needs a compatible router to take advantage of it. USB 3.2 Gen 2 is a 10Gbps standard.

Audio

ASUS describes Two-way AI Noise Cancellation, which it says reduces background noise on the microphone and on audio output, aimed at games and video conferencing.

Size and fit

The board is micro-ATX (mATX), a smaller format than full ATX. It fits micro-ATX cases and also most ATX cases, but not mini-ITX-only cases. Listed dimensions are about 9.6 x 9.6 inches.

Who it suits

It suits people building a new Intel-based desktop for home, office or gaming who want DDR5, current storage and built-in wireless without moving to a larger board.

What to check before you buy

  • Processor: confirm it is an LGA 1700 CPU and whether this board needs a BIOS update for it.
  • Memory: buy DDR5, and confirm speeds and capacity against the memory support list.
  • Case: check that it supports micro-ATX.
  • Storage: count the drives you need and check the M.2 and SATA ports.
  • Graphics card and cooler: check slot layout and clearance.
  • Power supply: ensure the connectors match the board.
  • Operating system: it is sold without one, as the listing does not mention any.
