The ASUS Prime B760M-A D4-CSM is a micro-ATX motherboard for Intel's LGA 1700 processors, built on the B760 chipset and using DDR4 memory. The CSM label marks a version aimed at businesses, with lifecycle support and management software. Here is what its specs mean and what to check for a build.
Processor support and chipset
The LGA 1700 socket takes 12th, 13th and 14th Gen Intel Core processors, according to ASUS. The B760 chipset sits in the mainstream tier: it lets you choose a processor and fast memory without paying for the most advanced chipset features. Before buying, check ASUS's CPU support list, since some processors need a BIOS update to work with a board.
DDR4 memory
This model uses DDR4 rather than DDR5. DDR4 is the older standard, and the two aren't interchangeable, so you must use DDR4 modules. ASUS lists OptiMem II, a design approach with careful trace routing and ground-layer work intended to preserve signal integrity and help memory overclocking. Check the listing for supported speeds and maximum capacity.
Storage and expansion
ASUS lists PCIe 4.0 and two M.2 slots. PCIe 4.0 roughly doubles the data rate of PCIe 3.0 per lane, which matters for fast NVMe SSDs and for graphics cards. Two M.2 slots let you fit a pair of SSDs, and a heatsink over the M.2 area helps with heat. Also listed are SATA 6 Gbps ports for hard drives and 2.5-inch SSDs. Check which slots share bandwidth in the manual.
Connectivity
Networking is Realtek 2.5Gb Ethernet, faster than standard gigabit if your router or switch supports it. Ports include rear USB 3.2 Gen 2 and a front USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C header. Video outputs are DisplayPort and two HDMI ports, which work with a processor that has integrated graphics.
Cooling and lighting
ASUS lists heatsinks for the VRM (the power circuitry), the M.2 area and the chipset, plus hybrid fan headers and Fan Xpert 2+ for fan control. For lighting, there are Aura Sync RGB headers, including addressable Gen 2 headers, which sync with compatible hardware.
The CSM programme and management software
CSM stands for Commercial Service Model. ASUS says the programme offers stable motherboard supply, end-of-life notifications and IT software for business use. ASUS Control Center Express is described as real-time monitoring and management software. That is useful to organisations that deploy many identical PCs, though an individual builder can ignore it. ASUS also pitches the board as ready for AI-oriented PCs.
Size
The board is micro-ATX, about 9.6 x 9.6 inches, so it fits micro-ATX and full ATX cases.
Who it suits
It suits small-business and office builds, and home builders who want a mainstream Intel platform with DDR4. Those wanting DDR5 or the latest chipset features should look at other boards.
What to check before you buy
- CPU compatibility: confirm your processor appears on ASUS's support list and whether it needs a BIOS update.
- Memory: buy DDR4 modules, not DDR5.
- Case: ensure it takes micro-ATX.
- Cooling: check that your CPU cooler supports the LGA 1700 mounting.
- Storage: count the M.2 and SATA devices you plan to use.
- Wireless: the listing mentions wired networking only; add a card if you need WiFi.
