The ASUS PRIME B760M-A-CSM is a micro-ATX motherboard for Intel processors that use the LGA1700 socket. It's built on the Intel B760 chipset and brings the usual mainstream desktop connections, including PCIe 4.0, two M.2 storage slots and 2.5Gb Ethernet, in a board about 9.6 inches (24.4 cm) square.
Socket and chipset
LGA1700 is the socket used by Intel's 12th, 13th and 14th generation Core desktop processors, and the B760 chipset sits in the mainstream tier of that platform. Which exact processors a given board accepts depends on its BIOS version, so it's worth checking ASUS's processor support list for the model number (90MB1EK0-M0EAYC) before pairing it with a chip. The "CSM" in the name is part of this particular ASUS product code.
What micro-ATX means
Motherboards come in several sizes. Full ATX is the common standard, and micro-ATX is a shorter version with fewer expansion slots. It fits both micro-ATX and full ATX cases, which gives you a wide choice of enclosure. The trade-off is fewer slots for add-in cards, which suits most builds that use a graphics card and little else.
Storage and expansion
ASUS lists PCIe 4.0 and two M.2 slots. PCIe 4.0 doubles the per-lane bandwidth of PCIe 3.0, which matters mostly for fast NVMe SSDs and current graphics cards. M.2 slots take small SSDs that mount directly on the board, so no cables are needed. Because the listing doesn't say which slots run at which speed, the manual is the place to confirm which M.2 slot supports PCIe 4.0 and whether it shares bandwidth with other ports.
Connectivity
Networking is handled by a Realtek 2.5Gb Ethernet port. That's faster than ordinary gigabit, though you'd need a 2.5Gb capable switch or router to take advantage of it. At the back there are USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, and the front header supports USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C for a case with a front USB-C port.
Cooling features
ASUS includes heatsinks on the VRM (the circuitry that feeds power to the processor), the M.2 slot and the chipset. There's also a hybrid fan header and what ASUS calls Xpert 2+ fan connectors. Hybrid headers accept either 3-pin DC or 4-pin PWM fans, so you can connect a broad range of case and CPU fans.
Memory technology
ASUS highlights Enhanced Memory Profile II and OptiMem II. The first is designed to make memory profile settings easier to apply. The second is a trace routing method meant to help memory run reliably. Memory type and maximum speed aren't in the listing, so check the specifications page for the supported DDR generation, because DDR4 and DDR5 aren't interchangeable.
Lighting
The board has a Gen 2 addressable header and an Aura RGB header for LED strips. Both can be synchronized with other Aura Sync-enabled hardware using ASUS's software.
Who it suits
It suits people building or upgrading a mainstream Intel desktop who want a compact board with current storage and networking, and who don't need the extra slots of larger boards. It's also a sensible fit for an office or home-use PC where the few expansion slots are enough.
What to check before you buy
- Processor support: confirm your chip is supported, and whether the board needs a BIOS update first.
- Memory type: check the supported DDR generation and maximum capacity.
- Case size: the board is micro-ATX, so confirm your case supports that size.
- Storage plans: check how many M.2 and SATA devices you plan to use, and which slots run at full speed.
- Network: a 2.5Gb port helps only when the rest of your network supports it.
- Operating system and drivers: note which you need and where drivers come from.
The short version
- A micro-ATX motherboard for LGA1700 Intel processors, using the B760 chipset.
- PCIe 4.0, two M.2 slots, 2.5Gb Ethernet and USB 3.2 Gen 2 at the rear.
- Heatsinks on the VRM, M.2 slot and chipset, plus hybrid fan headers.
- Aura Sync lighting headers.
- Check processor support and memory type before pairing parts.
