The ASUS Prime B760M-A-CSM is a micro-ATX motherboard for Intel processors in the LGA 1700 socket. The CSM in its name refers to the ASUS Commercial Solutions Management program, which targets offices, system integrators and commercial PC builders. Here is what its specifications mean.

Socket, chipset and processors

The board uses Intel's B760 chipset and the LGA 1700 socket. ASUS says it is ready for 14th, 13th and 12th Gen Intel processors. Boards from the earlier generation sometimes need a BIOS update before a newer processor will start, so it's worth checking the CPU support list on the maker's site for the exact processor you plan to use.

B760 is a mainstream chipset. Unlike the higher-end Z-series, it typically limits processor overclocking, which suits business and general-purpose machines.

Memory and storage

The board uses DDR5 memory, with ASUS Enhanced Memory Profile II and ASUS OptiMem II listed for memory compatibility. DDR5 modules are not interchangeable with DDR4, so check that you buy the right type.

It has two M.2 slots for NVMe SSDs and SATA 6 Gbps ports for drives and optical units. PCIe 4.0 is the version of the expansion bus, and it gives plenty of bandwidth for current graphics cards and fast SSDs.

Connectivity

ASUS lists Realtek 2.5Gb Ethernet, rear USB 3.2 Gen 2 and a front-panel USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C connector. The latter needs a case with a matching front USB-C port. Video outputs include DisplayPort and two HDMI ports, which work with the integrated graphics of processors that have them.

Cooling and lighting

The board includes VRM, M.2 and chipset (PCH) heatsinks, hybrid fan headers, and Fan Xpert 2+ for fan control. It also has Aura Sync RGB lighting headers: addressable Gen 2 headers and an Aura RGB header for LED strips.

The commercial angle

The CSM program promises a stable supply of the board, end-of-life notifications and IT software for business boards. ASUS Control Center Express is the IT monitoring and management software, aimed at companies that look after many PCs. A home builder can ignore it, but it matters to anyone deploying fleets of identical machines.

Who it suits

It suits small businesses, system integrators and anyone building a compact Intel desktop with modern memory and storage. It also suits home builders who want a plain, stable board.

What to check before you buy

  • Processor: confirm that your CPU is on the supported list, and whether a BIOS update is needed.
  • Memory type: DDR5 only.
  • Case size: micro-ATX boards fit micro-ATX and larger cases.
  • Storage: count your M.2 and SATA drives against the slots available.
  • Case connectors: check the case has the front USB-C lead you need.
  • Graphics: use integrated graphics or a PCIe graphics card, depending on your processor.
  • What's in the box: check which cables and accessories are included.
