The ASUS Prime A620-PLUS WIFI6 is an ATX motherboard for desktop PCs built around AMD Ryzen processors on the AM5 socket. It combines DDR5 memory support, PCIe 4.0, two M.2 slots and built-in WiFi 6. It is a platform for a general-purpose or gaming build that doesn't need the most expensive chipset features.

What AM5 and the A620 chipset mean

AM5 is AMD's current desktop socket. ASUS says this board is designed for Ryzen 7000 and 8000 series processors. Because AM5 uses DDR5 only, you can't reuse older DDR4 memory. A620 sits at the entry end of the AM5 chipset range. In general, that means fewer high-speed lanes and a simpler power design than B650 or X670 boards, and typically no CPU overclocking. Memory overclocking is another matter: ASUS lists OptiMem II, careful trace and via routing plus ground-layer work meant to preserve signal integrity for memory overclocking.

Storage and expansion

The board has dual M.2 slots and SATA 6 Gbps ports. PCIe 4.0 is the connection standard for the graphics slot and fast SSDs, offering roughly double the bandwidth of PCIe 3.0 per lane. Most current graphics cards and drives run well on it. Confirm the exact slot layout, lane speeds and the number of SATA ports in the manual.

Connectivity

Built-in WiFi 6 and a Realtek 1Gb Ethernet port cover wireless and wired networking. USB support includes a rear USB 5Gbps Type-C port and a front-panel Type-C connector, which suits modern cases with a front Type-C port. DisplayPort and HDMI outputs on the rear let you use a processor with integrated graphics, such as some Ryzen 8000 chips, before adding a graphics card.

Cooling and lighting

A VRM heatsink and PCH heatsink keep the power and chipset components cool. Hybrid fan headers accept either 3-pin or 4-pin fans, and Fan Xpert 2+ is ASUS software for tuning fan curves. For lighting, onboard addressable Gen 2 headers drive RGB LED strips that sync through Aura Sync with compatible hardware.

Audio and standards

Two-Way AI Noise Cancelation reduces background noise on the microphone and the audio output, which is useful for calls and online games. The listing also says CEC Tier II Ready, which refers to an energy-efficiency standard for computer power use.

Size and who it suits

It is a full ATX board, about 12 x 9.6 inches (30.5 x 24.4 cm) and 1.8 lb (0.8 kg). Check that your case supports ATX. It suits home and gaming builders choosing a Ryzen 7000 or 8000 platform, and people who want WiFi on the board rather than adding a card.

What to check before you buy

  • Processor support: confirm your Ryzen chip is on ASUS's supported list, and whether a BIOS update is needed for it.
  • Memory: it takes DDR5 only; check the supported speeds and the number of slots.
  • Case fit: confirm ATX support and check your cooler's clearance.
  • Storage: count the M.2 and SATA drives you plan to use.
  • Ports: check the rear and front USB ports against what you plan to connect.
  • Operating system: you'll need a licensed OS and the board's drivers.

The short version

  • An ATX AM5 board for Ryzen 7000 and 8000 series processors, with DDR5 memory.
  • PCIe 4.0, dual M.2 slots, SATA 6 Gbps, WiFi 6 and 1Gb Ethernet.
  • Rear and front USB 5Gbps Type-C, with DisplayPort and HDMI video outputs.
  • VRM and PCH heatsinks, hybrid fan headers and Aura Sync RGB headers.
  • Two-way AI noise cancelation for the microphone and audio output.
