The ASUS BE279QSK is a 27-inch Full HD monitor with a webcam, microphone array and stereo speakers built in. It is aimed at people who join calls, lessons and meetings from a desk and would rather not manage a separate camera, microphone and speakers. This page explains what each part does and what to check.

One screen for calls

ASUS lists an integrated Full HD (2MP) adjustable webcam, a microphone array and stereo speakers. A 2MP camera captures a 1920 x 1080 image, which is sharper than the basic cameras built into many older laptops. A microphone array uses several microphones, which is a common way to pick up voices clearly from a seated position. The webcam connects through a USB upstream cable to your computer, so you need a free USB port as well as a video cable. ASUS describes it for video conferencing, online learning and live-streaming.

The panel

The display is a 27-inch frameless IPS panel with a Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. Full HD at 27 inches is a lower pixel density than at 24 inches, so text may look less sharp up close, but it is a common size for office work. IPS panels typically show consistent colour from wide angles.

Ergonomic stand

ASUS lists a 4-way adjustable stand:

  • tilt from +35° to -5°;
  • swivel of ±180°;
  • pivot of ±90°, so the screen can turn upright for reading long documents;
  • 150 mm of height adjustment.

Being able to set the screen to eye level is useful for video calls, because a camera at eye height is more natural than one looking up from a desk.

Connections

The monitor offers DisplayPort, HDMI and D-sub (VGA) video inputs, a USB upstream port for the webcam, an audio-in jack and an earphone jack. That covers a wide range of computers, including older ones with VGA output.

Eye Care features

ASUS says the monitor has TÜV Rheinland-certified Flicker-free and Low Blue Light technologies and describes them as aimed at a comfortable viewing experience.

Size and weight

It measures about 15.7 x 24.1 x 10.5 inches (40 x 61 x 27 cm) with the stand and weighs 15 lb (about 6.8 kg). It is also wall-mountable.

Who it suits

It suits home offices, shared workspaces and students who use calls daily, and anyone wanting a tidy desk with fewer separate devices.

What to check before you buy

  • USB connection: the webcam needs a USB connection to the computer, in addition to the video cable.
  • Software support: check that your meeting software recognises the webcam and microphone.
  • Privacy: check the manual for how the camera is positioned or covered when you are not using it.
  • Desk depth and height: make sure there is space for the stand at its adjusted position.
  • Resolution: confirm that Full HD at 27 inches suits how close you sit.
  • Offers: the bundled software offer has an expiry date, so check its terms.
