The ARZOPA Z1FC is a 16.1-inch portable monitor with a 144Hz refresh rate. It works as a second screen for a laptop, as a display for a games console, or as a screen for travelling. It connects by USB-C or Mini HDMI and has a built-in kickstand. Here's what the main specs mean.

What 144Hz means

Refresh rate is the number of times per second the screen redraws the image. Most office monitors run at 60Hz. At 144Hz, movement looks smoother and blurs less, which matters in fast games. ARZOPA says it also gives lower input latency. To benefit, your source needs to send 144Hz too: many laptops and PCs can, while some consoles and phones are limited to 60Hz. Check your device's output limits.

1080P IPS panel with 100% sRGB

The screen is Full HD (1920 x 1080). On a 16.1-inch panel that gives a sharp enough image for documents, video and games at typical viewing distance. The IPS panel type usually offers wide viewing angles and stable colours. ARZOPA lists 100% sRGB coverage, the standard colour range for most web and game content, and describes HDR support. It is not aimed at professional colour grading, which typically needs more specialized coverage and calibration.

Connections

The monitor has two fully functional USB Type-C ports and a Mini HDMI port. ARZOPA says it's plug-and-play, with no downloads needed. A USB-C port only works as a video input if the device supports video output over USB-C (DisplayPort Alt Mode, or Thunderbolt or USB4 on many laptops). If your laptop can't do that, use the Mini HDMI port with a suitable cable. The listing names laptops, Mac, Xbox, PS5, Switch and Steam Deck as examples of devices it works with.

Kickstand and portability

A built-in stand lets you adjust the tilt angle, and ARZOPA says the monitor is lightweight and easy to carry. It weighs 1.7 lb (about 0.8 kg). The listing also describes the panel as ultra slim. It can run in horizontal or vertical orientation, and vertical works well for reading documents or code.

Using it as a second screen

For work, a second screen lets you keep email or reference material open beside your main window. ARZOPA suggests it for working from home and for training others. For travel, a screen of this size is easier to pack than a full desktop monitor, though it will always be smaller.

Who it suits

It suits remote workers and students who want a second display, gamers who want a lightweight screen for a console or handheld PC, and travellers who work from hotels. If you want a large main display for a desk, a standard monitor is a better fit.

What to check before you buy

  • Video output: confirm your laptop, phone or console can send video over USB-C, or that you have a Mini HDMI cable.
  • Power: portable monitors are often powered through USB-C, so check whether your device can supply enough power.
  • Refresh rate: make sure your source can output 144Hz.
  • Size and weight: compare 16.1 inches with your bag and desk space.
  • Cables and stand: check what's in the box and how stable the kickstand is on your surface.
