The WORX WG520 is a corded electric leaf blower with a 12-amp motor and a turbine fan that WORX says is inspired by jet engine design. It is meant for clearing leaves and debris from lawns, decks and driveways, and it is light enough to use one-handed. Here is what the numbers mean.

What 600 CFM and 110 mph mean

Blowers are described by two figures. CFM (cubic feet per minute) is the volume of air moved, and mph is the speed of that air. Volume matters for moving a wide pile of leaves, and speed matters for lifting stuck debris. WORX gives 600 CFM through a wide-mouth nozzle, which it says clears large areas with fewer passes, and a top speed of 110 mph.

The brand says the turbine spins twice as fast as the blowers used by commercial grounds crews and offers gas-like power without gasoline. These are the manufacturer's comparisons, so treat them as marketing claims.

Two speeds

Speed 1 is around 60 mph, according to WORX, for pavement and tight corners. Speed 2 gives the full 110 mph for open lawn. Using the lower setting near flower beds or loose gravel helps avoid scattering things you want to keep.

Hyper-stream nozzle

An attachable nozzle narrows the air stream so it concentrates on tougher jobs, such as damp leaves or debris stuck in corners. Without it, the wide mouth is intended for sweeping across large areas.

Weight and handling

WORX says the blower is designed to be controlled with one hand, and the listing gives its weight as about 6.4 to 6.6 lb. The design funnels the air in a way WORX describes as easy to handle. Weight is only part of comfort, so think about how long you will use it at a time.

Corded power and the cord retainer

A corded blower runs for as long as it is plugged in, with no battery to charge, but your reach is limited by the cord. WORX includes a cord retainer so an extension cord does not pull apart if snagged. Use an outdoor-rated extension cord of the gauge and length the manual recommends.

Assembly

The listing says no tools are needed to assemble it.

Who it suits

It suits homeowners with a mid-size to large yard who want to clear leaves quickly and prefer to avoid handling fuel or batteries. It is less suited to places far from an outlet. Because it is corded, it is better for yards you can reach with a reasonable extension.

What to check before you buy

  • Reach: measure the distance from the outlet to the farthest area.
  • Extension cord: choose a suitable outdoor cord as the manual describes.
  • Noise: electric blowers are quieter than most gas models, but still loud; consider hearing protection and local noise rules.
  • Debris type: wet leaves, gravel and heavy material may need more than air volume.
  • Accessories: check the nozzle and any other parts in the box.
  • Safety: follow the manual, including eye protection.

The short version

  • A 12-amp corded electric leaf blower with a turbine fan.
  • 600 CFM of air volume and two speeds, up to 110 mph.
  • Hyper-stream nozzle, cord retainer and one-handed design.
  • Tool-free assembly, about 6.6 lb.
