The WORX WG509 TRIVAC is a corded electric leaf blower that also works as a vacuum and a mulcher. It is made for homeowners who want to move leaves into a pile, pick them up and shrink them down for disposal or compost with one tool. It comes with a separate leaf collection system, which this page also covers.

Three jobs, one switch

In blower mode, the TRIVAC pushes air at up to 210 mph, and WORX describes the output range as 80 to 210 mph at 350 cfm. Moving a switch changes it into a vacuum, and the leaves are pulled in and mulched. WORX says no tubes need to be swapped between functions. The tube is angled so it can reach under patio furniture and the deck without crouching.

What 18:1 mulching means

The two-stage metal impeller and shredder blades chop leaves into small pieces. WORX rates the ratio at 18:1, meaning 18 bags of leaves reduce to roughly one. In general, shredded leaves take up far less room and break down faster in a compost pile or as a lawn dressing. Actual reduction depends on how dry or wet the leaves are, and on what else is picked up, so treat the ratio as the brand's figure.

The 12 amp motor

The 12 amp figure describes the current drawn by the motor, and it runs from a standard outlet through an extension cord. A corded tool generally gives steady power without a battery to charge. The trade-off is cord length: you are limited by the extension lead. WORX says the unit weighs under 10 lb and is designed for one-handed use.

The collection bag and LeafPro system

The bag holds about 1.2 bushels. The separate WORX LeafPro Universal Leaf Collection System goes further: it has an 8-foot hose that expands to 16 feet and is designed to feed leaves into a 32 to 96-gallon waste container. WORX says it fits most major gas and electric blowers and that its multi-fit adapter seals on about 90% of blower/vacs. The hood is made from tear-resistant material. The listing notes that this collection system is not compatible with the TURBINE Fusion, and refers to a different model for that tool.

Who it suits

It suits owners of small to medium yards with trees who want to avoid raking and bagging. The collection system is aimed at anyone who already owns a compatible blower. If your yard is large, a cordless unit may reach further.

What to check before you buy

  • Power access: check how far you must reach from an outlet and what extension cord gauge and length the manual recommends.
  • Compatibility: the leaf collection system's adapter should match your blower's outlet; check the sizes in the manual.
  • Container size: confirm your waste container or bin fits the 32 to 96-gallon range.
  • Noise: electric blowers are generally quieter than gas models but still loud; consider hearing protection and local noise rules.
  • Upkeep: emptying the bag and clearing the impeller of wet debris are routine tasks, so check the manual.
  • Weight: under 10 lb is light for a vacuum-mulcher, but hold it to see if the balance suits you.
