The VEVOR JY-MY-SKJ-56-120 is a stainless steel rotisserie kit for roasting large cuts of meat over a fire pit or barbecue, up to whole pigs or lambs. A 52W electric motor turns a 56-inch spit rod, so the meat cooks evenly without being turned by hand.
Motor and heat shield
VEVOR says the motor turns the spit rod at 4 rpm. A slow turn is typical for rotisserie cooking, because it lets the meat cook through gradually and bastes itself in its own juices. The kit has an enlarged heat plate and a more powerful motor fan, both meant to keep heat from the fire away from the motor. VEVOR says this reduces motor malfunctions. Even so, keep the motor on the cool side of the fire, as the manual describes.
What the 132 lb capacity means
The load is rated at 132 lb (60 kg). VEVOR notes that the real maximum is the net weight of the prepared food, so the weight of the spit rod, forks and net sits outside that figure. An automatic rotisserie fork and a grill net come with the kit. As with any spit, a load that is balanced along the rod turns more smoothly and puts less strain on the motor.
The 56-inch sectional rod
The spit rod is 56 inches (about 142 cm) long and has sections, so it can be taken apart to make the kit smaller to put away or carry. A threaded round rod is used to hold larger pieces in place. The long rod lets you cook several items at once, in VEVOR's words, so meats such as chicken or pork can share the spit.
Stand and height adjustment
The kit has eight height holes, so that you can raise or lower the rod relative to the heat. That is how you control the cooking temperature, since the meat sits nearer or further from the coals. VEVOR says the upgraded 45-degree tripod stays stable even on grass, which is useful for backyard fires.
Materials and cleaning
The kit is made from stainless steel, which VEVOR says resists wear, corrosion and dust. It says cleaning needs only a soft sponge. The listing gives a 69.5 x 22.2 x 34.3 inch size and a weight of 22.8 lb (about 10 kg).
Who it suits
It suits people who cook large cuts for gatherings, such as whole lamb or pig, over an open fire pit or a large grill. It is less suited to small grills, since the stand and 56-inch rod need open space.
What to check before you buy
- Space: the kit is nearly 70 inches long, so check it fits across your fire pit or grill.
- Power: the motor is electric, so you need a safe, weather-protected power source within reach.
- Load: weigh your meat, and balance it on the rod.
- Fire safety: keep a safe distance from structures and follow local rules on open fires.
- Storage: the rod comes apart, but the stand still needs space.
