The Sportsroyals FZYT-2022 is a freestanding power tower that combines a pull-up bar, dip handles and an assisted pull-up pad in one frame. It lets you train upper body and core at home without fixing anything to a wall or doorframe.
How the assisted pull-up pad works
Pull-ups are hard to start with. Sportsroyals fits a padded, high-density sponge support with resistance bands that take part of your body weight, so you can do the movement before you can lift your full weight. The bands are listed as adjustable from 22 to 88 lb (about 10 to 40 kg) of assistance. As you get stronger, you reduce the support. The brand says the pad also folds up to serve as a backrest.
Stability and construction
Freestanding towers depend on their base. This one has an H-shaped base 39.7 inches (about 100 cm) long with eight support points and rubber non-slip feet. Sportsroyals describes the frame as heavy-duty powder-coated steel, and the listing gives a load figure of 440 lb (about 200 kg); the title says 450 lb, so confirm the capacity stated in the manual. The whole tower weighs 86 lb (about 39 kg), and that mass helps keep it steady.
Adjustable height and handles
The pull-up bar can be set in six levels from 64.56 to 87.01 inches (about 164 to 221 cm). The armrests adjust from 15.75 to 18.11 inches (about 40 to 46 cm), and the push-up handles rotate 45 degrees. The overall footprint is 41.2 x 39.7 inches (about 105 x 101 cm), and the height is 87 inches (about 221 cm).
Because the top setting is just over 7 feet, check your ceiling height before you plan on a pull-up, since you need room for your head and arms at the top of the movement.
Dips and leg raises
For dips, the armrests and handles let you support yourself with straight arms and lower your body. Sportsroyals says the armrests tilt inward by 10 degrees so your arms stay on the pads, and that the elbow pads are widened and thickened to cushion the arms. The backrest and arm pads also let you do hanging or supported leg raises, which are commonly used for core work.
Who it suits
It suits home gym users who want a single station for pull-ups, dips and push-ups, and beginners who need an assisted way in. Sportsroyals describes the family as users, with adjustment to different workout styles. As with any strength equipment, build up gradually and follow the manual's instructions on assembly and use.
What to check before you buy
- Space: allow for the 41 x 40 inch footprint plus room around it to move.
- Ceiling height: the tallest setting is about 87 inches.
- Floor: a hard, level surface helps the rubber feet grip; consider a mat.
- User size and weight: compare your weight with the stated load figure, and check the manual.
- Assembly: a tower this size typically needs time and a second pair of hands.
- Parts and upkeep: check bolts and pads from time to time, and see how replacement bands are supplied.
