The SKEERY SKR-US-PN-002 is a portable volleyball net sized to official dimensions. It comes with steel cables and side bars, so it can go up in a backyard, on a beach, on grass or on a court. SKEERY says it follows FIVB net regulations.

Official size

The net measures 32 x 3.3 feet (about 9.5 x 1 m), and the mesh holes are 3.9 inches (10 x 10 cm). A regulation net is one metre deep and about 9.5 metres long, so it should match the dimensions used in organised play. The horizontal band is 3 inches wide.

Remember that the net itself is only one part of a court. The post spacing and net height are set by the level of play, so check the rules for your age group or league.

Materials

  • Netting: HDPE (high-density polyethylene) with a wire thickness of up to 3 mm. A thicker twine usually means a stiffer net that resists stretching.
  • Band: PVC and polyester, which SKEERY says has stronger UV resistance, ageing resistance and waterproofing, with reinforced corners to absorb impact.

Cables and side bars

The top and bottom each have a 5 mm coated steel cable, 42 feet long, and each side has a 3.3 ft fibreglass bar. Two cables spread the tension evenly across the net, which SKEERY says gives it a neat, even shape and keeps it intact under strong impacts and extreme weather. Side bars keep the net edges straight and in place.

Installation

SKEERY supplies stainless steel U-shaped bayonets and an installation wrench. It says the net can be taken down and put up again on beaches, grass, in backyards and on courts. You provide the posts or a system to hold the cables. Pay attention to the effective length of cables and net when you plan the span between posts.

At 9 lb (about 4 kg), the net is easy to carry, so it can be stored away between games.

Who it suits

It suits schools, clubs, training sessions and families who want a net close to match dimensions at home. It is less useful if you want a complete, ready-to-use set including posts, since this listing is for the net.

What to check before you buy

  • Posts: you need posts or a system that fit this net and can bear the cable tension. Check that they're rated for the loads.
  • Span: measure the distance between your posts against the 42 ft cable length and the 32 ft net.
  • Surface: consider whether you can anchor posts safely on your ground, whether sand, grass or a hard court.
  • Net height: set it to the right height for your players' age and level.
  • Storage: dry the net before folding it, and keep it out of direct sun when not in use.
