The Happybuy 1 Gallon Stainless Steel Sprayer is a hand-pumped pressure sprayer for the garden and around the house. You fill the tank, pump up the pressure by hand and spray through a wand on a flexible hose. It is meant for small and medium jobs where a backpack sprayer would be more than you need.

How a pump sprayer works

A pump sprayer holds liquid in a sealed tank. Working the pump handle forces air into the space above the liquid, and that trapped air pushes the liquid up the hose and out of the nozzle when you squeeze the trigger. Happybuy gives the working pressure as 1.5 to 4.0 bar (roughly 22 to 58 psi). Higher pressure typically means a longer reach and finer droplets, but the spray then empties the tank faster.

Stainless steel tank and its limits

The tank holds 1 gallon (about 3.8 litres) and is made of stainless steel, which Happybuy describes as rust-proof and durable. The brand also warns that the rubber ring and internal design are not suited to strongly corrosive, acidic or alkaline solutions. Check the label of whatever you plan to spray, and rinse the tank after each use, as is wise with any sprayer.

Nozzle, wand and reach

A brass nozzle adjusts from a direct jet to a fine mist. The 12-inch wand and 3-foot reinforced hose help you reach under shrubs or along fence lines without bending, and Happybuy says the spray can reach 13.1 to 16.4 feet (about 4 to 5 metres). A jet suits spot work on weeds in cracks, while a fine mist is the usual choice for even coverage on leaves.

Pressure gauge and safety valve

A gauge on the tank shows the pressure at a glance, so you know when to stop pumping. A safety valve is designed to release pressure automatically if it climbs too high. These are useful on a sealed, pumped vessel, but you should still avoid over-filling and release the pressure fully before opening the tank.

Filling and carrying

The bowl-shaped fill opening is meant to make pouring easier, and the handle is built for quickly building up pressure. An adjustable shoulder strap lets you carry the sprayer while you work. Happybuy lists uses including lawn and garden spraying, general cleaning, car care and pet bathing. The listing gives its size as 14 x 8 x 8 inches (about 36 x 20 x 20 cm).

What to check before you buy

  • Whether one gallon is enough for your area. Larger yards may need frequent refills.
  • The chemicals you plan to use, and whether they are compatible with the seals and tank.
  • Spare parts and seals, since pump sprayer seals can wear over time.
  • A dedicated sprayer for weed killers, kept apart from any used on plants you eat.
  • Protective gear and the instructions on the product you spray.
