The ENGWE Y600 is a folding electric scooter for adults, with a 500W brushless rear hub motor that peaks at 830W, a 48V 18Ah battery, suspension at both ends and turn signals. ENGWE aims it at commuting and leisure rides in town. Here is what its main specs mean and what to confirm before you ride.

Motor and speed

ENGWE says the motor is rated at 500W with an 830W peak, and that it produces 28 Nm of torque. Peak power is what the motor can deliver briefly, for example when pulling away or climbing, while the rated figure describes continuous output. The brand gives a maximum speed of up to 28 mph and a maximum hill-climbing ability of 15 degrees. Those are the maker's figures under ideal conditions, and real results depend on the rider's weight, the surface and the battery charge. Local rules on speed, age and where e-scooters may be ridden vary widely, so check them before you ride.

Battery, range and charging

The scooter has a 48V 18Ah battery, which works out to roughly 864 watt-hours of stored energy. ENGWE says it can travel up to 43.5 miles on a charge, and notes that range varies with road conditions, riding mode, weather and rider weight. Charging uses a 54.6V 2A charger and takes about 7 to 8 hours, according to the listing. A 4-speed electric assist mode and four riding modes let you trade speed for range.

Suspension and tires

Front and rear dual shock absorbers soak up bumps and vibration, and the listing refers to "triple" suspension. The tires are 10 x 2.75 inch vacuum (tubeless) tires. Larger, wider tires typically roll over cracks and rough pavement more comfortably than small ones, while tubeless designs avoid inner tubes. ENGWE says the setup suits changing weather and bumpy trails.

Turn signals and certification

Turn signals are built in, which helps other road users see your intentions. The listing also states UL 2272 certification. UL 2272 is a standard covering the electrical system of personal e-mobility devices, including fire and electrical safety testing, but it does not replace following the manual's guidance on charging and storage. Always wear a helmet and use lights as local rules require.

Frame and folding

The frame is made of aluminium alloy 6061, a common lightweight structural alloy. The scooter weighs 24 kg (52.9 lb) and folds to 111.8 x 21.3 x 57.3 cm (43.98 x 8.39 x 22.56 inches). ENGWE says that makes it easy to put in a car, and avoids trouble with stairs, although at about 24 kg, carrying it up several flights is still a real effort.

Setup and support

The scooter is 90% pre-assembled, with the remaining steps completed from the instructions. ENGWE says its customer service team is available for questions.

Who it suits

It suits adults with a regular urban route or longer leisure rides who want a foldable scooter with suspension and a higher-powered motor. Its weight means it is better for people who can lift it into a car than for those who carry it daily.

What to check before you buy

  • Local rules: confirm whether this type of scooter is legal where you live, and what speed limits and equipment apply.
  • Weight limit: the listing doesn't give a rider weight limit, so check the manual.
  • Storage and carrying: make sure you have room for the folded size, and can lift 24 kg.
  • Charging: plan a place to charge for 7 to 8 hours, and follow the manual's charging guidance.
  • Range expectations: treat 43.5 miles as a best-case figure.
  • Upkeep: check the manual for tire, brake and bolt checks.
