The Aosom 370-276V00WT is a pedal-powered go kart for children aged 5 to 12. There is no motor or battery, so it is ready whenever the child is, and it moves only as fast as they pedal. Aosom presents it as a way to get children playing outdoors.
Controls: pedals, handbrake and reverse
The kart has a handbrake, a freewheel design and reverse drive. Freewheel means the child can stop pedalling and coast without the pedals spinning with the wheels. Reverse drive lets them back out of a corner rather than lift the kart around. Aosom says these give tight control and let a child move in any direction.
Adjustable seat
The seat has three positions, with up to 2.25 inches of adjustment, so a child can sit at a comfortable reach from the pedals as they grow. The seat measures 13.8 inches wide, 11 inches deep and 12 inches high. Setting the seat so the legs can reach the pedals easily is worth doing before the first ride.
Wheels and surfaces
Four non-slip rubber wheels are meant to absorb shock. Aosom says they give a smooth, stable ride and good traction on concrete, brick, gravel and asphalt. As with any pedal kart, smooth, flat ground is the easiest to ride on, and it is best to keep children away from roads and slopes, as the manual advises.
Size, weight and limits
The kart is about 47.8 inches long, 22.8 inches wide and 24 inches tall, and weighs 30.4 lb (roughly 13.8 kg). Aosom gives a weight capacity of 110 lb (about 50 kg) and a suggested age range of 5 to 12 years. It lists ASTM F963 and CPSIA as the standards it is qualified to. Assembly is required.
Pedal power
Because it has no battery, there is nothing to charge and no electronics to maintain. Aosom notes that pedalling promotes physical activity.
Who it suits
It suits families with a yard, driveway or park nearby and a child within the age and weight range who wants a ride-on toy that steers well and has a real handbrake.
What to check before you buy
- Child's size: check your child's height and weight against the 110 lb limit and the seat dimensions.
- Space: at almost 4 feet long, check where it will be stored and ridden.
- Assembly: allow time to assemble it, and tighten parts as the instructions say.
- Where to ride: pick flat, enclosed areas away from traffic.
- Protective gear: helmets and other protection are sensible; follow the manual's guidance.
