The Waterdrop WD-G2MRO is a replacement filter cartridge for certain Waterdrop under-sink reverse osmosis (RO) systems. It is a consumable part, not a complete system, so its job is to restore filtration on a system you already own once the current cartridge reaches the end of its rated life.

What it fits

Waterdrop lists compatibility with the WD-G2-B, WD-G2-W and WD-G2MNR-W reverse osmosis systems. The listing also names them as the models this filter replaces. If you have a different brand or a different Waterdrop model, the cartridge will not necessarily fit, so check your system's label or manual first.

How the three stages work

Waterdrop describes a three-stage composite filter that combines an activated carbon block with a reverse osmosis membrane. The brand puts the membrane's accuracy at 0.0001 micron.

In general terms:

  • The carbon block reduces chlorine, taste and odour, and some organic compounds.
  • The RO membrane is a very fine barrier that typically rejects most dissolved solids, which is why RO water is often measured with a TDS meter.
  • Combining them in one cartridge reduces the number of separate stages to change.

Waterdrop says the filter reduces over 90% of TDS after complete flushing, and lists heavy metals such as lead, arsenic, mercury and cadmium among the things it reduces. The brand also mentions PFAS reduction in the listing title. These are the manufacturer's figures, and the actual result depends on your water and your system's pressure.

Rated life

The filter is rated for 24 months or 2,200 gallons. Waterdrop advises replacing it according to the replacement cycle to keep the water at its best. If your household uses a lot of water, the gallon figure can be reached before two years.

Changing it

Waterdrop says the cartridge swaps in about three seconds with a single twist and no tools. Filters of this type are generally flushed before use, and the brand's TDS claim assumes complete flushing, so follow the flush steps in your manual. Close the water supply before changing it, as the manual will describe.

Size

The cartridge is about 6.3 by 6.3 by 16.7 inches and weighs 5 lb. That is useful to know if your cabinet is tight, since you need clearance to twist the old cartridge out and the new one in.

What to check before you buy

  • That your system is one of the three listed models.
  • The date you last changed the filter and your approximate water use.
  • Space under the sink for a cartridge about 17 inches tall.
  • How to flush the new cartridge, as the manual specifies.
  • Whether your system also has other stages with their own replacement schedule.
  • Any questions on fit, which are best put to the manufacturer before ordering.

The short version

  • Waterdrop WD-G2MRO is a replacement three-stage RO filter, not a full system.
  • Fits WD-G2-B, WD-G2-W and WD-G2MNR-W, as the brand lists.
  • Rated for 24 months or 2,200 gallons.
  • Single-twist, tool-free change, according to Waterdrop.
  • Flush it fully before judging performance.
