The Ubroo 3-in-1 is a corded at-home IPL (intense pulsed light) hair removal device with a cooling touch head. It is designed for people who would rather treat hair at home than book salon sessions, and it has settings for small areas and large ones. IPL does not suit everyone, so skin tone and hair colour matter a lot here.
How IPL works
IPL devices emit broad-spectrum pulses of light that are absorbed by pigment in the hair. Ubroo says the light is absorbed by the hair follicle and breaks the cycle of hair regrowth, sending the follicle into a dormant period. Because the light targets pigment, results typically depend on the contrast between hair and skin. Ubroo says it uses a red-light range of 600 to 1200 nm and that the light outlet and built-in mirror filter out unwanted wavelengths.
Who it is, and isn't, for
Ubroo is clear about limits. It states the device is not for dark brown, black or other dark skin tones, and not for red, grey, white or light blonde hair. Check your skin tone and hair colour against the manual before use, or ask the brand's customer support. Anyone unsure about suitability should consult a qualified professional first.
Ice cooling
Ubroo describes an ice-touch function that lowers the touch head to about 5°C (41°F) before it contacts skin, so you can treat and cool in the same pass. Ubroo says the mirror-style design also helps the head cool quickly during use.
Nine levels and two modes
There are nine energy levels. Ubroo recommends starting at the lowest and setting the level to suit your skin type and hair density. Two modes are available:
- Manual mode, mainly for small areas such as the bikini line, underarms and lip.
- Automatic mode, for larger areas such as arms, legs, abdomen and back.
The brand says to hold the device at 90 degrees to the skin.
Flashes and schedule
The device offers 999,900 flashes, which Ubroo says is enough for a whole family. The brand suggests using it for at least six to eight consecutive weeks before expecting significant results, at two to three sessions per week. Results vary from person to person, and the performance figures in the listing are the brand's own.
In the box and design
Ubroo includes a pair of goggles, a shaver and a user manual. The hair must be shaved before use to avoid burns. The device is not wireless, so you need to be near a power outlet. The curved body and a looped, Möbius-style flash button are designed for a comfortable grip and easy finger positioning.
