The SANSI 42W is a portable ultraviolet (UVC) lamp for sanitizing surfaces and air in an empty room. It is controlled by remote and has a timer and a radar sensor that switches it off if someone approaches. This page covers what the specs mean and why careful use matters.

How a UVC lamp works

SANSI says the lamp produces ultraviolet light at a wavelength of 254 nm, and that this energy disrupts the DNA and RNA of microbial cells. SANSI presents this as an option that doesn't need chemical liquids or disposable filters. SANSI also says the lamp is ozone free, and lists an EPA EST. number of 100807-CHN-1.

UVC light is invisible and harmful to skin and eyes, so a lamp like this is meant to run only in an empty room. SANSI states that people, pets and plants must not be exposed to the light and that you must leave the room while the lamp is working.

Remote control and timer

The lamp is switched on and off by remote control, so you can start it from the doorway. There are timer settings of 15, 30 or 60 minutes. SANSI says it covers up to 600 sq ft (about 56 m²), and in general the effect of UV light depends on distance, exposure time and whether surfaces are in direct line of sight. Shadowed areas are not reached.

Radar sensing

A radar motion sensor is meant to add a layer of protection. SANSI says that when a person or pet comes within a 13 ft (about 4 m) range, a buzzer sounds and the lamp turns off automatically. When the motion has gone for 10 seconds, it automatically restarts. Because it restarts by itself, think about whether someone could walk in unnoticed, and don't rely on the sensor alone.

Where it is used

SANSI lists homes, offices and schools as places for indoor use, and mentions odours and mould among the things it is for. Follow the manual's directions on placement, and keep the room closed while it runs.

Support

SANSI lists 2-year after-sales service and round-the-clock support.

Who it suits

It suits people who want a remote-controlled UVC lamp for rooms that can be left empty and closed during a cycle, and who will follow the safety instructions.

What to check before you buy

  • Safety: read the manual first. Eyes, skin, pets and plants must not be exposed.
  • Room use: the room must be empty and ideally closed to anyone entering.
  • Restarting: the lamp resumes after motion stops for 10 seconds.
  • Coverage: shadowed surfaces are not treated by direct light.
  • Materials: UV light can degrade some plastics and fabrics over time; check the manual.
  • Lamp life: ask about replacement tubes and disposal.
  • Local rules: check regulations for UVC devices where you live.

The short version

  • A 42W UVC lamp with 254 nm light, described by SANSI as ozone free.
  • Remote control and timers of 15, 30 and 60 minutes.
  • Radar sensing with a buzzer that switches the lamp off at about 13 ft.
  • For empty rooms only: people, pets and plants must not be exposed.
