The Krute 20-inch carry-on is a hardside suitcase with four spinner wheels, a built-in USB port and a cup holder on the back. It is aimed at short trips and business travel, where you want to keep your bag with you rather than check it in.

A shell made of PC+ABS

The case is made of PC+ABS, a blend of polycarbonate and ABS plastic that is common in hardside luggage. In general, polycarbonate adds flexibility and impact resistance, while ABS adds rigidity and keeps the shell light. Krute says the shell is solid and resists scratches. Hardside cases protect fragile items better than soft bags, though they can't expand the way a soft bag can, so packing space is fixed.

Size and capacity

Krute lists the case at about 12.4 x 8.3 x 20.5 inches (31.6 x 21 x 52 cm) with a capacity of 40 litres, and a weight of 6.3 lb (about 2.9 kg). That is a typical carry-on footprint, and Krute says it meets airline carry-on standards. Airlines set their own limits, though, and they differ between carriers and fare types, so measure against your airline's current rules before you travel.

Spinner wheels

Four double wheels let the case rotate through 360 degrees. This means you can push or pull it beside you through a terminal, rather than tilting it onto two wheels and dragging it behind. Spinner wheels roll easily on smooth floors, but on rough pavement or cobbles many travellers prefer to tilt and pull.

USB port and cup holder

An external USB port lets you charge a phone or other device from a power bank placed inside the case. Krute notes that the power bank is not included, so the port is only useful if you bring your own. Many airlines have rules about power banks in luggage, so check the current guidance before packing one.

The cup holder on the back is meant to hold a water bottle or coffee while you walk, so you don't need to juggle drinks and the handle.

Lock and warranty

The zipper has a TSA-style lock. TSA locks are designed so that security staff can open them with a master key without cutting the lock. Krute states that no keys come with the lock, since it is a combination type, so check how it is set before the first trip. The brand also describes a ten-year assurance with after-sales support; read the terms to see what it covers.

Who it suits

It suits people who travel light, such as weekend travellers, commuters and people on short work trips, and who want a rigid case that rolls easily and can keep a device charged.

What to check before you buy

  • Airline limits: compare the dimensions and weight with your airline's carry-on rules, including wheels and handles.
  • Capacity: 40 litres suits a few days of clothes; for longer trips you may need a larger case.
  • Power bank rules: if you plan to use the USB port, check what your airline allows.
  • Colour and size: check them carefully when ordering, as Krute suggests.
  • Wheels and handle: consider the surfaces you will cross on your trips.
