The Kismile CM5712 is a semi-automatic espresso machine for making espresso, milk drinks and cold coffee at home. It pairs a 20-bar pump and a 1350W thermoblock heater with a 58mm portafilter, a swivelling steam wand and a round display that shows each shot's details. Here is what those specs mean in practice.

Hot and cold extraction

The control panel has separate buttons for hot and cold extraction, next to the buttons for a single shot, a double shot and steam. Hot extraction makes traditional espresso. Cold extraction is Kismile's one-touch way to make refreshing cold coffee for iced drinks. It is a different thing from traditional cold brew, which is made by steeping grounds in cold water for many hours, so think of it as a quicker route to iced coffee rather than a replacement for an overnight batch.

What 20 bar and 1350W mean

Espresso is made by forcing hot water through a compact puck of finely ground coffee. Pump pressure figures like 20 bar describe the pump's maximum; the extraction itself typically happens at around 9 bar, and a stronger pump leaves headroom to hold that pressure steadily. The display shows the system pressure during each shot, so you can see what is happening.

A thermoblock heats water as it flows through a heated metal block instead of keeping a boiler full of hot water. Thermoblock machines typically warm up quickly, and Kismile says this 1350W system reaches brewing temperature in a short time.

The 58mm portafilter and filter baskets

At 58mm, the brew head and portafilter match the diameter commonly used on commercial espresso machines; many home machines use smaller baskets. A wider basket spreads the coffee in a broader, shallower bed, which Kismile says improves water distribution and extraction consistency.

The box includes a single-cup filter and two double-cup filters, one single-wall and one dual-wall. Dual-wall, or pressurised, baskets are typically more forgiving with pre-ground coffee, because the second wall helps build pressure even when the grind isn't ideal. Single-wall baskets need a fine, even grind and firm tamping, but give more control over the result. A tamper and a coffee scoop are included.

Shot sizes and the display

The single and double buttons pour about 40 mL and 80 mL. The round LED display shows the brew time, the shot volume, the system pressure, the temperature and whether a single or double shot is selected. Shot time is one of the main things home baristas watch: a shot that runs much faster or slower than usual is often a sign that the grind or the dose needs adjusting.

Steaming milk

The stainless steel steam wand swivels 360 degrees, so it can be angled into a milk jug from different positions. Kismile describes it as making silky microfoam for lattes, cappuccinos and latte art. As a general habit with any steam wand, start with cold milk in a metal jug, and purge and wipe the wand right after each use so milk doesn't dry on it.

Size and who it suits

The machine measures about 12.01 inches tall, 7.95 inches wide and 10.79 inches deep (roughly 30.5 x 20 x 27.4 cm). A cleaning brush and a cleaning needle come with it.

It suits home coffee drinkers who want espresso, milk drinks and iced coffee from one machine, and who like seeing the numbers behind each shot. It has no built-in grinder, so you'll need ground coffee or a separate grinder.

What to check before you buy

  • Counter space: allow for the footprint plus room to reach the water tank and steam wand.
  • Coffee: decide between pre-ground coffee with the dual-wall basket or a grinder for the single-wall basket.
  • Cups: check that your usual cups and glasses fit under the spouts.
  • Water tank: the listing doesn't give the tank capacity, so confirm it if you make several drinks at a time.
  • Upkeep: follow the manual for descaling and for cleaning the wand and baskets.

  • 20-bar pump, 1350W thermoblock heater and a 58mm portafilter.
  • Single-wall and dual-wall filter baskets, a tamper and a scoop in the box.
  • A 360-degree swivel steam wand for milk foam.
  • A round display shows brew time, volume, pressure and temperature; about 12 x 8 x 10.8 inches.
