The Kismile KS-CM8032S is a compact semi-automatic espresso machine in stainless steel, with a steam wand for milk. It is designed for home kitchens that want espresso, cappuccino and latte without a large machine. Here is what its specs mean and what to consider before using one.
What 20 bar means
Bar is a measure of pressure. Kismile specifies a 20 bar pump driven by a 1350W motor. In general, espresso extraction works best at about 9 bar at the coffee, so a pump rated at 20 bar is a maximum capability, not the pressure the coffee sees. Machines with such pumps typically rely on a pressurised filter basket to regulate the flow. Kismile includes a pressurised funnel, which helps with consistent results even when the grind or tamp isn't perfect.
Temperature control
The machine uses PID temperature control, which Kismile says keeps the optimum temperature for brewing and for frothing milk. A PID controller measures the water temperature and adjusts the heater in small steps, so temperature stays steadier than with a simple on-off thermostat. Steady temperature matters because espresso tastes noticeably different if the water is too hot or too cool.
A heated metal plate on top of the machine preheats cups. Kismile says this helps the coffee keep its temperature once poured.
Speed
According to the brand, the machine preheats in about one minute, and a single or double espresso takes 15 to 25 seconds. Short warm-up is common on thermoblock machines, which heat water on demand instead of keeping a boiler hot.
The steam wand
The steam wand makes foam for cappuccinos and lattes. Kismile says the steam heats up quickly and produces thick, creamy froth, and that you can try latte patterns. Frothing is a skill; microfoam, the glossy texture used for latte art, takes practice. Wipe the wand and purge it after each use, as the manual describes, because milk dries on it quickly.
Water tank and descaling
The removable water tank holds 40 oz (about 1.2 litres), which Kismile says suits several drinks before a refill. The tank lifts off for filling at the sink.
Kismile says the machine has a descaling indicator: after 500 uses, the four lights on the screen flash five times, telling you to descale. Descaling removes mineral build-up from the heating system. How often it is needed depends on your water hardness, so follow the instructions.
Size and what's included
The machine measures about 11.7 x 5.1 x 16.1 inches (roughly 30 x 13 x 41 cm) and weighs 9.5 lb (about 4.3 kg). The slim 5.1-inch width suits narrow counters; check the height against your cupboards. The box includes the machine, the 40 oz tank, single-cup and double-cup filters, a pressurised funnel, a tamper with a measuring spoon and a manual. Kismile also mentions 24-hour customer support.
Who it suits
It suits people who drink espresso-based milk drinks at home and want a small footprint and quick warm-up. It is semi-automatic, so you grind, dose and tamp yourself, and a separate grinder is not included.
What to check before you buy
- Counter space: check width, depth and the height needed to remove the tank and fill cups.
- Coffee: use freshly ground coffee suited to espresso; a pressurised basket tolerates a wider range.
- Cup size: confirm your cups fit under the group head.
- Water: hard water means more descaling.
- Cleaning: rinse the portafilter, wipe the wand and empty the drip tray as the manual says.
- Hot surfaces: the machine and steam wand get hot in use.
