The Gevi EzBru 1000 is a stainless steel espresso machine with a portafilter and a steam wand for milk. Gevi designed it around one-dial operation, so you can pull an espresso or build a latte, cappuccino or americano without a complicated control panel. It sits at the compact end of the home espresso range.
One-dial brewing and shot volume
The machine uses a single dial to start brewing, and Gevi says it offers four brewing volumes to suit different cup sizes. That makes it simpler than a machine with many buttons, and it means that repeatable shot sizes are built in.
Temperature control: PID and NTC
Water temperature has a large effect on how espresso tastes. Too hot can taste bitter, and too cool can taste sour. Gevi lists PID and NTC dual temperature control. In general, an NTC sensor reads the temperature, and a PID controller adjusts the heater in small steps to hold the target more steadily than a simple on/off thermostat. You can choose from four settings, from 90°C (194°F) to 96°C (204°F).
58mm portafilter
The portafilter is the handled basket that holds the ground coffee. Gevi uses a 58mm size, which is the diameter used by many commercial machines. A wider basket spreads the coffee over a bigger area, and accessories in this size are widely available. Gevi says the larger diameter gives better contact between water and coffee for fuller extraction.
Pre-infusion
Pre-infusion gently wets the coffee puck before full pressure is applied. The idea is that the grounds swell evenly and water flows through them more uniformly, which helps limit channelling. Gevi says its pre-infusion draws flavours evenly for a balanced taste.
Steam wand for milk
The steam wand heats milk and injects air to make foam. Gevi says it produces silky microfoam suitable for lattes and cappuccinos. Steaming milk takes practice, and the quality of the foam depends on technique as much as the machine.
Build and size
The housing is full stainless steel. The machine measures 12.2 x 10.3 x 13.0 inches and weighs 13.7 lb. The 2.2L (74 oz) removable water tank means several drinks before refilling.
Warranty
Gevi states a 12-month warranty and lifetime technical support for products bought through an official or authorised channel.
Who it suits
It suits home users who want to learn espresso with a proper portafilter and steam wand, but prefer a simple interface and a small footprint.
What to check before you buy
- Grinder: this type of machine usually needs a separate grinder, since none is listed.
- Space: check counter width, depth and the height under cabinets, including room to lift the tank.
- Cups: check that your cups fit under the group head.
- Accessories: confirm what comes in the box, such as filter baskets and a tamper.
- Upkeep: plan for descaling and cleaning the steam wand after each use.
- Safety: steam and hot water can scald, so follow the manual.
