The Gevi 20 Bar espresso machine in white is a semi-automatic machine for making espresso, cappuccino and latte at home. You grind, dose and tamp the coffee yourself, and the machine controls water temperature and pressure. Here is what the main features mean in practice.

Temperature control

Gevi says the machine pairs a PID controller with an NTC sensor in a dual-chip system. A PID controller continuously adjusts the heater to hold a target temperature, which typically keeps the water steadier than a simple on-off thermostat. There are three presets: 92°C, 94°C and 96°C. In general, lighter roasts are often brewed hotter and darker roasts cooler, and Gevi says changing temperature helps with sourness or bitterness.

Portafilter and pressure

The machine has a 58mm portafilter, the size used on many commercial machines; Gevi says it supports heat retention and even extraction. A 20-bar Italian ULKA pump supplies the pressure, and a built-in gauge shows it in real time. Espresso is generally extracted at around 9 bar, and the listing says the built-in OPV (over-pressure valve) holds pressure in the 9-12 bar range, which is why a 20-bar pump figure isn't the pressure at the coffee.

Three-way solenoid valve

After the shot, a 3-way solenoid valve releases pressure from the group head. Gevi says this leaves dry pucks, simpler clean-up and longer internal life.

Touch display

A touch panel shows a live shot timer, temperature and pressure. Watching these numbers while adjusting grind size is a common way to dial in a shot.

Steam wand

Gevi describes a Super Steam mode that produces continuous dry steam for heating milk quickly without extra water, aimed at microfoam for cappuccinos and latte art. Technique matters as much as steam power, so expect some practice.

Size and warranty

The machine measures 15.6 x 9.1 x 14.2 inches (about 40 x 23 x 36 cm) and weighs 21.6 lb (about 10 kg). Gevi says products bought through official or authorized channels carry a 12-month warranty and lifetime technical support.

Who it suits

It suits home users who want hands-on control over espresso and milk drinks and are happy to learn grinding and tamping. Note that a grinder isn't mentioned in the listing.

What to check before you buy

  • Grinder: semi-automatic machines work best with a separate grinder able to produce fine, consistent grounds.
  • Counter space: allow room above for filling and removing the tank.
  • Accessories: check the manual and box list for tamper, baskets and milk jug.
  • Power: check the voltage requirement for your region.
  • Upkeep: plan for descaling and cleaning the steam wand.
  • Warranty: check that your seller counts as authorized.
