The Gevi 10-Cup Grind & Brew is a drip coffee maker with a burr grinder built into the top. It grinds whole beans just before brewing, so you get freshly ground coffee without a separate grinder taking up counter space. If you'd rather use coffee that's already ground, you can skip the grinder and brew from that instead.
How grind-and-brew works
Pour whole beans into the grinder on top and the machine grinds them just before the water runs through. A burr grinder crushes beans between two grinding surfaces, which typically gives a more even grind than a blade grinder that chops them. Even grounds extract more evenly, which helps the coffee taste balanced rather than partly sour and partly bitter.
Grinding at the last moment matters because ground coffee loses its aroma much faster than whole beans, and much of what people call "fresh" coffee flavour comes from that aroma.
Brew size, from 4 to 10 cups
The brew size adjusts from four to ten cups on the touch panel. That makes it practical both for one or two people in the morning and for a full carafe when family or guests are over.
One thing to keep in mind: on most drip coffee makers, a "cup" is a small measure of about 5 to 6 fl oz (roughly 150 to 180 ml), not a full mug. A full ten-cup pot is therefore closer to five or six generous mugs.
Touchscreen, timer and keep-warm
A large LED touchscreen on the front handles the settings: you tap the panel to choose how to brew, and the display shows your choices. Two features make it easier to fit into a routine:
- 24-hour programmable timer. Set a delayed brew in the evening and the coffee can be ready when you wake up.
- Adjustable keep-warm. After brewing, a temperature-controlled heating plate keeps the carafe warm. You can set the holding time anywhere from 60 to 240 minutes, so it doesn't stay on longer than you need.
Coffee held on a hotplate for a long time tends to taste flatter and more bitter, so a shorter setting makes sense when the pot will be finished quickly, and the longer ones suit slow weekend mornings or an office.
Filling and placement
The 1.5-litre water tank lifts out, so you can fill it at the tap instead of pouring water into the machine, and its clear side shows how much water is left.
The machine measures 10.7 x 7.9 x 17.8 inches (depth x width x height), or about 27 x 20 x 45 cm. Height is the figure that matters most: with the grinder on top, it won't fit under every upper cabinet, and you'll need some room above it to add beans.
Cleaning and upkeep
The listing doesn't describe a cleaning routine, so the manual is the place to look. In general, grind-and-brew machines need a little more care than a plain drip maker: coffee oils and fine grounds build up in the grinder and the chute that leads to the filter, and a regular brush-out keeps the grind consistent. Like any drip machine, it will also need descaling from time to time, more often in hard-water areas.
Who it suits
It suits home kitchens and offices where people want fresh-ground coffee by the carafe, and households that buy whole beans but don't want a separate grinder on the counter. If you only ever brew a single mug, a different type of machine may fit your routine better.
What to check before you buy
- Space: measure the height under your cabinets (17.8 inches, plus room to add beans) and your counter depth.
- Grind and brew options: check how many grind settings and brewing styles it offers, if you like to fine-tune strength.
- Filter: confirm whether it uses a permanent filter or paper filters, and which size.
- Noise: any grinder is loud for a short time; consider this if others are asleep when the coffee brews.
- Carafe and upkeep: check the carafe material, which parts are dishwasher-safe and how the grinder comes apart for cleaning.
